2nd post - challenge entry

Hi there, me again, second post of the day - if you missed my earlier post then please either scroll down or click on the link here.

The lovely Chrissie and  Mandi over at the Simply Less Is More blog challenged us all to use the colours and photo as inspiration - not colours I use together often I have to admit so spent much of the day thinking about image combinations before I came up with the option below. I tried music script in grey with a musical instrument in deep pink - nope, I tried lines in pink and a green floral image - nope .... then this so ....

It IS more square in real life - honest!

Materials used:
  • 5" square 300 gsm white card and matching envelope
  • White card panel coloured with pro marker "pear"
  • Grey card panel slightly smaller
  • White card panel as my image panel
  • Artistry harlequin image inked in Studiog pink
  • Penny Black Iris inked in Versacolour lime and Brilliance pink
  • Penny Black sentiment inked in Memento London fog
  • Two faux crystal gemstones to finish

Hope you like it, thanks for stopping by and I also hope you are enjoying your Saturday

Morning and welcome to the Saturday challenge update!

Hi there,

Hope you enjoyed your Friday evening - ours was uneventful. Hubby had been at a model air show all day - setting up as it opens today, at Shepton Mallet Showground. It's on tomorrow too so I'm on my tod this weekend and can do pretty much as I please - YAY!

Laundry aside that is, and crafting is certainly on the menu!

Anyhoo, over on Craftbubble's Craft Mad and Loving It group it is my turn to present the sketch and I chose the added twist of specifying a MASCULINE card! Here's my sketch and card

Over on the Simply Less Is More blog there's a new challenge set at 08:00 each Saturday and always well supported, with 144 entries last week for challenge #60. If you fancy having a go then why not check out the blog? The challenge remains open until 10:00 pm each Friday and Chrissie and Mandi then choose a few of their favourite entries to showCASe. This week's challenge offers us a photo inspiration ..

Have a fabulous Saturday, as I type this it's still a little too early to say how the weather will turn out but no rain is forecast so sitting out on the patio with a book might be an option too! Still sending GET WELL vibes to Sir Andy too, as he's still in hospital.

Hi there and welcome to the Friday Funny!

Yesterday was a funny old day, glorious weather, challenge to make and a funeral to attend. Not unnaturally, the funeral took the edge off my mojo but when I got home I sat in the garden for an hour with my kindle and then decided to have another look at Pam's challenge materials ..... and here's how they evolved.

Additional materials used:
  • ATC blank
  • Black card cut to ATC size
  • Narrow white satin ribbon
  • Paper Artsy splat image inked in Versacolour silver
  • Image panel die cut in to a circle
  • Alcohol markers to colour image
  • Quickie glue pen and foil - to highlight
  • Glossy accents to give a patent effect

Here's a reminder of the materials Pam sent me as a challenge.

And now for the Friday Funny, this week courtesy of an e-mail from my pal Mary - thanks for this groaner!! - ENJOY

Tired of constantly being broke & stuck in an unhappy marriage, a young husband decided to solve both problems by taking out a large insurance policy on his wife with himself as the beneficiary, and then arranging to have her killed.

A 'friend of a friend' put him in touch with a nefarious dark-side underworld figure who went by the name of 'Artie.' Artie explained to the husband that his going price for snuffing out a spouse was £5,000.

The husband said he was willing to pay that amount, but that he wouldn't have any cash on hand until he could collect his wife's insurance money. Artie insisted on being paid at least something up front, so the man opened his wallet, displaying the single pound that rested inside.

Artie sighed, rolled his eyes, & reluctantly agreed to accept the pound as down payment for the dirty deed.

A few days later, Artie followed the man's wife to the local Morrisons. There, he surprised her in the produce department & proceeded to strangle her with his gloved hands. As the poor unsuspecting woman drew her last breath & slumped to the floor, the manager of the produce department stumbled unexpectedly onto the murder scene. Unwilling to leave any living witnesses behind, ol' Artie had no choice but to strangle the produce manager as well.

However, unknown to Artie, the entire proceedings were captured by the hidden security cameras & observed by the store's security guard, who immediately called the police.

Artie was caught and arrested before he could even leave the store.

Under intense questioning at the police station, Artie revealed the whole sordid plan, including his unusual financial arrangements with the hapless husband who was also quickly arrested. The next day in the newspaper, the headline declared...

(You're going to hate me for this...)

Oh, quit groaning! I don't write this stuff, I receive it from my warped friends and then post them here, for you to enjoy - you know you love 'em!!!!.

Happy Friday and have a great weekend - see you tomorrow for the new challenges

Hello and welcome to Thursday

Hi there,

Yesterday was a funny old day, I set out to make some scrap layouts but then sat and got myself engrossed in the book I had been reading on my kindle. The morning got away from me and I only posted one layout yesterday.

I did make a second but decided to share it with you all today rather than do a second post. And, of course, I CLEAN FORGOT it was What's On Your Work Desk Wednesday so didn't post that either - DOH! Must be this blooming cold! Thankfully, the perpetually running nose seems to have stopped but I do still look like I could audition for the part of Rudolph in pantomime!

And here was what the opposite end of my work desk looked like yesterday - a messy great pile!! I LOVE IT! I have a little space (about A3 size) in which to craft and the rest is piled up with this lot!

Inspired by the two layouts for a double page spread, and with a few photos to spare, I opted for third. This layout sort of co-ordinates but doesn't match the other two but I think it blends in OK.

Here's how the two page layout looked when finished and filed.

My regular readers will no doubt recall that I swap ATC's with a pal on the Isle of Skye and that, to spice things up a bit, we also exchange materials as a challenge. A letter arrived this morning enclosing materials - and in time for me to post a piccie of my challenge! Look out over the coming days to see what sort of ATC they turn in to!

Anyway, have a fantabulous Thursday, it will soon be the weekend! I've got a funeral to go to this afternoon so will be having a rather less than fabulous day today.

Hello and welcome to Wednesday

Hi there and welcome to another fine Wednesday.

I sort of missed the morning, where did it go? I had intended to get up and get on with all sorts of "stuff" including a couple of scrap book layouts. Hmm, sat down with a cup of honey, lemon and ginger tea and started on my kindle book .......... 11:30! Best I crack on with scrapping I thought. All of my friends who know me well will know that I craft at the speed of light and my layout was finished in no time flat ...

Hope the weather is good where you are. I'm sending get well vibes to a crafting pal, Sir Andy, who is back in hospital - feel better soon, treasure.

Morning - I hope you all remembered ....

to change your clocks by one hour, if you live in the U.K.. My husband went around the house last night before we went to be and proudly announced that he'd done them all - hmmm. History tells me that there's going to be more than one not yet changed - I found the first ...... the phone time is still on yesterdays time!

Bright eyed and bushy tailed this morning I set out to make a spring like card ...... didn't turn out QUITE that way - as I'm sure you'll agree, cards often don't!! They sort of evolve in to something quite different and this one sure did that! I DID, however, stick with spring like and citrus-y (is there such a word?) colours and I hope you like it.

Materials used:
  • 12cm square white, 300 gsm card and matching envelope
  • 11½cm white card panel with a 1cm coloured border using Marvy alcohol ink YG634 and Stampers Anonymous check pattern inked in Versacolour Split Pea
  • 11cm white card panel:
  • Yellow inktense block colour laid down and then brushed with water
  • Paper Artsy random dots inked in Versacolour orange multiple times
  • Recollections Splat and drip image inked in Versacolour split pea multiple times
  • Tim Holtz harlequin image inked in Memento potters clay and inked multiple times (sometimes without re-inking)
  • Paper Artsy line image inked in Versacolour gold
  • Lavinia flower stalk image inked in Memento potters clay and stamped multiple times
  • Studiog sentiment inked in Memento potters clay
I took inspiration from a fellow LIM crafter (Esther) when I first saw this technique used on a Clean And Simple card - this, however, appears to be CAS gone mad!! - though TECHNICALLY it does still have white space, but I think that's really pushing the boundaries of CAS ...... don't you?

Over on Craftbubble's Craft Mad and Loving It group there is usually a Sunday theme but it's Karen's turn and Karen usually busy and often forgets to post a theme on a Sunday so I've posted my card there and suggested that anyone who wants to can take the card (or any element from within it) as inspiration for a card of their own - interested to see what happens there then.

Anyway, have a great Sunday - weather's smashing here and hubby's taken the chance to head off to the local flying field for some recreational flying of model planes, first chance in five weeks so I'm pretty sure he'll be late home too!, but that's OK as we've nothing planned for this afternoon.

2nd post - challenge entry! If you missed my earlier post then please scroll down

Hi there,

A quickie from me, to show you my LIM entry for the Simply Less Is More challenge this week. The theme this week has been to select three challenges from any previously set. Now, I have LOVED most of the challenges on this blog so it took me a while to think of just three!! Have a look and see what you think ...

Materials used:
  • Off white C5 card and matching envelope
  • Two grey card panels
  • One black card panel
  • One cream card panel
  • Art Impressions M-2068 image inked in Memento tuxedo black on to cream card panel and then panel edged with blended distress inks in pumice stone and black soot
  • Inkadinkado sentiment inked in Memento tuxedo black on to the base card

And which three challenges did I choose?

Challenge #12 Off centre
Challenge #7 Masculine
Challenge #57 Neutrals - because I had trouble with this one just a couple of weeks ago and submitted pink as a neutral, which it wasn't!

Hope you all approve and I look forward to reading your comments.

Have a fab Saturday - don't know what the weather is like with you but, here in Bristol, its a lovely spring afternoon and I've washing on the line blowing in the breeze! I've friends at the NEC today and am deeply envious - wonder what fabulous crafting goodies they will head home with .......

Morning and welcome to the weekend dear readers

Time for another challenge over on the Craftbubble group "Craft Mad and Loving it" and this week sees Karen's Christmas challenge. She's selected "A Christmas Carol" and here's my take on Oh Christmas Tree!

  • Materials used:
  • C6 white card and matching envelope
  • Panel of white card coloured round the edges with Memento Bamboo
  • DCWV Christmas paper stack
  • Green card panel edged using a Martha Stewart punch from a PATP set
  • Strip of matching DCWV Christmas stack paper
  • Two lengths of narrow white satin ribbon
  • Inkadinkado image inked in Memento bamboo and  highlighted with stickles, rounded corners
  • Mat layers of green card and white card edged with memento bamboo - both panels with rounded corners
  • Computer generated sentiment and mounted on a bamboo coloured panel and some narrow white satin ribbon
  • Two metal look snowflakes attached with glossy accents
  • One faux crystal attached to the top of the tree
Hope you like it, fancy having a go? Then pop over to the group and be inspired by my fellow Design Team members cards.

As usual, it's also time for a new challenge over on the splendidly Clean And Simple group Simply Less Is More - there are always some fabulous entries there. It's strange but I sometimes find it harder NOT to do CAS since discovering this blog although, in the beginning, I could never see myself doing CAS as I loved my embellishments!! It was hard at the start, to give up on all the twiddly bits but now ..... I LOVE IT!, and I know I'm not alone as there are often in excess of 200 entries, many from regulars (like me). This week sees the return of the the TAKE THREE CHALLENGES challenge and you get to pick and combine your favourite three from previous challenges. Hmm so many fabulous things to choose from ......... thinking cap in place so you might want to pop back later and see what I went with!

Happy Saturday

Hi there and welcome to the Friday Funny!

Hi there,

Back from Florida on yesterday's flight out of Orlando. We were about 45 minutes late boarding due to an aircraft change but the flight was less than half full so we boarded quickly and were only about 20 minutes late pushing back - longish flight at nearly 8½ hours when it's usually closer to 7½ - but that was the weather and there's pretty much nothing anyone can do about that!

Our trains were on time, though we slept most of the journey from Gatwick to Reading - fortunately the service terminates at Reading else we could have finished up anywhere!!

Now begins the process of finding homes for everything!! and sorting through the MOUNTAIN of post! Where does it all come from? I ask myself .... we're on the mailing preference service too!

Lots of lovely letters from trading card buddies so it's a good job I cracked on and made a Fair few whilst in Florida as it looks like plenty will be heading out over the weekend!

So, so far? No crafting so today's post is just to say hi to you all and to post the Friday Funny - because I know you lot expect it!

This week's Friday Funny comes from Jacky ........ you KNOW it's only a paint job but still ..... wouldn't it creep you out to board these buses?

Happy Friday and have a great weekend, whatever you have planned. Me? I'll be getting back to normal (if there is such a thing!) and will see you all tomorrow when there will be new challenges over on Craftbubble and Simply Less Is More to share with you all.

Just an ATC to share with you today, and a couple of pix of the wildlife ....

Materials used:
  • ATC blank
  • ATC sized black card off cut
  • Kraft card offcut slightly smaller than ATC size
  • Distress Ink - scattered straw, used to colour edges of Kraft card
  • DCWV checkered paper scrap
  • Crop-a-dile used to punch four small holes and set four gold coloured eyelets
  • Fancy thread passed through the eyelets before tying in to a knot
  • Fiskars bird inked in Memento rhubarb stalk on to white card and cut out before running Spun sugar distress stain over (to dull the white contrast) and adhering to ATC
  • Fiskars sentiment (from the "for the birds" set acquired on Monday) inked in Ranger Archival jet black
Hope you like it, now - here's a couple of pics carrying on with the "For the Birds" theme ...

You looking at ... ME?!!!

Regular recent readers of my blog will have seen previous WOYWDW photos showing our spare bed LITTERED with craft stuff ...... well not any more - check this out.

A last minute foray and some crafting ....

Wotcher peeps,

Another late on from me - honestly, just get the hang of this vacation lie in stuff and it's time to return to reality!

Still loving this Kraft card - one of my better purchasing ideas methinks.

Materials used:
  • C5 white card and matching envelope
  • Black card cut in to a panel slightly smaller than my base card and a tag shape
  • Kraft card cut in to a panel slightly smaller than my black panel and a tag slightly smaller than the black tag
  • My Minds Eye sentiment and Fiskars dotted line inked in Memento grape jelly
  • Crop-a-dile used to punch small hole in to the tag
  • Twine threaded around the panel twice and then through the tag before threading through a clear glittered button and tied off in a knot.
  • Fiskars dotted line inked in Memento grape jelly and stamped across the bottom of the Kraft panel with a faux crystal adhered to cover the ever so slightly misaligned join!! Ooopsie - methinks it might also be time to get my eyes tested again as it looked perfect till I removed the stamp!

Anyhoo, we headed off to the Waterford Lakes shopping centre yesterday where I did a little remedial craft shopping ....

Bird set was 30% off and the splats were in the clearance section at just $2.49!!!

Happy Tuesday folks, whatever you have planned. I'd like to send GET WELL vibes to Sir Andy of Stafford as the poor chap's in hospital right now - get well soon matey.

Sunday, 18 March 2012

Hi there and Happy Mothers Day!

Hi folks,

To all the mum's out there ... HAPPY MOTHERS DAY - here's hoping you've been spoiled all day, so far! Having no kids and no mum's left I've not made or expected any cards - I did, however, have an e-mail from surrogate daughter 1 wishing me a Happy Mothers Day, which was great - thanks Nik.

Yesterday, being St Patricks Day, was celebrated all over Florida and we decided to dine in rather than have to drink green beer! (yes, honestly, even the beer was green!) so we trekked off to Publix (supermarket) and got supplies only to be asked if we were celebrating the day - hmmf! Well, our beer wasn't green but I guess you COULD argue that we did celebrate!, so yes.

On to the Sunday challenge over on Craft Mad and Loving It ...... this week set by Nicola and she has chosen the theme of WEATHER!! I chose ....... sunshine! Well, I AM in the SUNSHINE state! I've also used a mask so will enter this in to the challenge over on the Simply Less Is More blog too.

Materials used:
  • White C5 card and matching envelope
  • Pre cut mask and low tack tape to hold it in place
  • Distress Ink in scattered straw but I used it with a dirty pad on the blending tool to make the colour a little more sand coloured - I THINK it worked!
  • Art Impressions flip flops and  Fiskars line of dots & My Minds Eye sentiment inked in Ranger Archival jet black
Here is the matching envelope and insert ...

I also made another card in the same style as my first entry for the mask challenge over on Simply Less Is More but, as it's quite similar to the first, I decided it wouldn't be appropriate to enter it but - what do you think? Like it?

Materials used:
  • White C5 card and matching envelope
  • Large post its to mask random shapes coloured using Distress Inks: Victorian Velvet, Scattered Straw, Dusty Concord, Weathered Wood
  • Stampendous Agapanthus image and Fiskars sentiment & line of dots inked in Ranger Archival jet black
  • Faux gemstones added at each end of the line of dots - to highlight
Hope you like my work today - as always, I look forward to reading your comments and thanks for stopping by this Mothers Day. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday

2nd post of the day, challenge entry, please scroll down to read my earlier post

Hi there,

Me again - just a quickie as I've a challenge entry to show you.

Over on Simply Less Is More the weekly challenge was posted at 08:00 this morning and this week's challenge is "TO FEATURE MASKS" ..... now, if only I had an image of a mask I would surely have used that as a play on words - but I didn't so ......... I've gone all retro! - check this out instead. I'm still not able to spend the time I would like in order to view and comment on all of the fabulous entries so please accept my apologies again. The quality of entries each week remains so high that Chrissie and Mandi face an almost impossible task each week to select just a few for their showCASe - an unenviable task!

Materials used:
White C6 card and matching envelope
Black card panel
White card panel
Post Its (large) to create my masks
Distress inks: Antique Linen, Scattered Straw, Wild Honey, Dusty Concord
Stampers Anonymous image inked in Ranger Archival jet black
Fiskars sentiment inked in Ranger Archival jet black

Hope you like it. I should point out that the matting IS much more evenly spaced and level than it looks in the photograph - I plainly put it on to my easel a bit "on the wonk"! Oooopsie

If you missed my first post then please either scroll down or follow this link here - I'd hate for you to miss it!!! - if you've the time and inclination, that is!

Last evening saw us heading to Chilis for dinner and as I was chowing down on my fabulous half rack of ribs (so tender I could have cut them with a spoon!) I noticed I was being stared at ..... at first I thought it looked like an M&M but quickly realised that it was actually ..... a chilli!! Cool huh?

Have a great Saturday everyone

Morning and welcome to the weekend dear readers

It's Sketchie day once more and this week it is the turn of a Guest Design Team Member .... it's Nicola, and she has set a CAS Sketch with the added twist of "no patterned papers, make your own!"!!

Here's a close up of my stamped backing paper ...

Materials used:
  • White C6 card and matching envelope
  • Black card panel with corners rounded
  • Kraft card panel with corners rounded
  • Black card panel
  • White grosgrain ribbon
  • Brown Satin ribbon
  • Kaisercraft mesh image inked numerous times in Versamagic ginger
  • Inkadinkado ink blot image inked in Color Box gold
  • Stampers Anonymous sun ray image inked in Studiog olive
  • Black and Kraft matting panels cut and corners rounded
  • Kaisercraft cuckoo clock image inked in Ranger Archival jet black on to a white card panel with rounded corners
And here's Nicola's sketch.

I had trouble accessing Craftbubble yesterday so - for those devoted and new Craft Mad and Loving It types there's always the blog to meet up on .... check it out here. It's where we all hang out when locked out of CB!

Don't forget there's a new challenge over on the Simply Less Is More blog today too. This week's theme is MASKS - ENJOY!

Happy Saturday
