Monday and another week begins!

Morning readers,

Well, what a change in the weather? Don't get me wrong .. I was DELIGHTED to have the cooler temperatures and I know that gardeners (and water stocks) have been desperately in need of the rain - it's the wind I could have done without! Still, at least we've started to catch up on the sleep lost whilst it was too hot to do anything other than toss and turn all night so I'm calling that a result!

On a crafting front .... I am currently obsessed with Artist Trading Coins and this started out that way too but then ... I had a little think and came up with the idea of stamping the tree background and simply adhering my "coin" on to a regular ATC (since their diameter is that of a regular ATC) - schimples!!!!

My ATC
And a closer view of the image panel
Materials used:
  • Snippets of card in Kraft, green and white
  • I cut a 2½" x 3½" ATC blank using Kraft and also die cut a 2½" circle
  • I cut the green card in to a 2¼" x 3¼" rectangle
  • The white card snippet I die cut in to a 2¼" circle
  • I stamped the zebra image on to my white circle and the background trees (both from a Judikins cube image "African Safari" 67271) using Memento tuxedo black ink
  • Faber Castell polychromos pencils used to colour my zebra image
  • Black Posca paint pen to doodle borders
I'll be entering the above make for the following challenges:-
  1. Moving Along With The Times - challenge No. 76 - WILD ANIMALS
  2. Colour Crazy - challenge No. 30 - HAND COLOURED ANYTHING GOES - hope colouring the background works as there wasn't too much to colour on the zebra's!
  3. CardzTV - challenge No. 58 - ANYTHING GOES
  4. QKR Stampede - challenge No. 306 - ANYTHING GOES
  5. My Time To Craft - challenge No. 376 - ATC's
And now for one of those cards nobody LIKES to make but pretty much every card maker WILL have tackled the issue ..

Saturday and ... still hot!

Morning readers,

I am so over this hot weather, it's relentless - at least, when you're on holiday, there's usually air conditioning to escape in to .. here? Not so much! EVERY summer we promise ourselves we'll get a portable A/C unit and every year, about the time we make a decision then either the weather breaks or the stores have sold out - can you guess which it is this year?!?!?! We DID get a little rain overnight and it did cool it down a little but ...

Still, from my darkened room I'm still trying to craft ..... enjoying my current obsession with Artist Trading Coins, I am loving both the scale of them AND their shape, they're just such fun to make.

My Artist Trading Coin
Materials used:
  • Snippets of card in white and navy
  • On to the white card I stamped the mini dog from Stampers Anonymous - CMS272 "Mini Cats and dogs" using Memento Tuxedo black ink - I stamped a second image on to a full cover post it which I then cut out to use as a mask
  • With my mask in place I stencilled Memento canteloupe ink through the Dylusions split circle stencil and then again through the Memory Box grid stencil (88517) changing to Memento rosebud ink and stencilling through the Carabelle scribble stencil - MA60052
  • Paper Artsy splatter (from HTPX01) stamped using Memento rosebud ink
  • Having then removed the stencil I used Faber Castell polychromos pencils to colour my image
  • Sakura gelly roll gel pen (white) used to doodle the border on to the navy layer
I'll be entering the above make for the following challenges:-
  1. Addicted to Stamps - challenge No. 302 - MAKE YOUR MARK
  2. Crafting By Designs - July 25th challenge - ANYTHING GOES
  3. Cute Card Thursday - challenge No. 540 - TOO CUTE
  4. Crafting With An Attitude - challenge No. 41 - ANYTHING GOES

And then it was time for a card .... I just don't use these cute hippos enough!

My card
And a closer view of my hippos!

  • One piece of bright pink card cut to 11½cm square

A "start of the weekend" post and a birthday blog bash

Morning readers

Some of you may know that I'm a floating list manager over at Challenges For Days .... a blog which lists challenges by day, every day. This blog was started in 2013, by Zoe Sanderson, and we have been celebrating it's success all week with some giveaways

Challenges For Day (CFD) came about in 2013 when Zoe thought about putting together a list of challenges out there in blogland, she separated them in to each day ... of course some challenges publish by date rather than always on the same day so there are actually EIGHT lists. The lists are laid out WEEKLY, TWO WEEKLY and MONTHLY and there are links to each challenge blog included - which makes it super easy to access each challenge. It was always intended to be a useful resource to members of the crafting community. Naturally, this was a lot of work for just one person to do .... so Zoe recruited a team to assist, giving each member a list of their own. We currently have a team of nine, including me ..... I'm a floater and cover holiday, sickness etc.

If you would like to join us then I'm sure we'd love to hear from you. Having help on call is always a benefit and Christi (who now runs the CFD blog) has a number of ideas for improvements once we have the extra help. All you need is an hour or so to spare each week, and an active blog of your own - details are on the CFD blog under the tab "Join our happy band" - look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you to all team members past and present, congratulations to the current team on organising and participating in this Birthday Bash, and particularly Donna who's been co-ordinating things.

To celebrate the blog's birthday, each team member has made a birthday card .... and below you can see my own. If you want to be in with a chance of winning today's prize then please leave me a comment (mentioning the CFD Birthday blog celebrations). You can also enter the draw for sponsor prizes offered during our week of celebrations by visiting The Challenges For Days blog here. Only comments made before the week's celebrations finish on Saturday will be eligible for today's prize below. Comments made on the CFD blog may be added any time this week but only one entry per person.

Today's prize on offer at the CFD Birthday Bash - a set of stamps and two sets of stamps & dies
In order to celebrate the CFD birthday I decided to indulge one of my favourite techniques, that of layering stamps to form my design and chose masculine colours for this - I hope you like it

Wednesday, 25 July 2018

Well, it's both midweek AND Rudolph Day!

Morning readers,

Hope your week is coming along peeps and that you are managing to cope in all this heat ... we're just not used to it in the UK, I swear I've not been cool in a month!

I belong to a private blog where we host Rudolph Day challenges of our own and today sees my turn to present the challenge, I've gone with the theme of Santa - it's a broad theme, open to interpretation as you could argue that even stockings hanging on a mantel mean Santa to some people so it doesn't just have to feature the big man himself! Anyhoo, here is my make, deploying my current favourite die .. the MFT wonky rectangle! I suspect this will need to be a hand delivery though, as it uses a wobbler mechanism!

My card

The front, back and inside of my card along with the front and back of my envelope

Materials used:
  • Cream A2/C6, 250gsm, card and matching sized envelope
  • Two pieces of cream card cut to fit
  • One piece of red card, cut to mat
  • Snippets of card in red and cream
  • MFT Wonky rectangle die used to cut a window from the red card
  • Sentiment (from PRS "Sketchy Christmas") and MFT Santa (from "Jingle all the way" stamped on to cream card snippet using Memento tuxedo black ink
  • MFT "Jingle all the way" die used to cut the Santa
  • Faber Castell polychromos pencils used to colour Santa before attaching the wobbler mechanism (from Hampton Arts) and adhering to my card front
  • Stardust stickles to higlight and bling up the Santa
Additionally,I'll be entering the above make for the following challenges:-
  1. Sweet Stampin' Christmas - July challenge - ANYTHING CHRISTMAS GOES
  2. Crafty Hazelnuts Christmas Challenge - challenge No. 395 - ANYTHING CHRISTMAS GOES + (optional) twist of USE SOME RED (DONE!)
  3. Dragonfly Journeys - challenge No. 123 - CHRISTMAS IN JULY
  4. Hiding In My Craft Room - challenge No. 362 - CHRISTMAS IN JULY
And a journal page  ..... I am enjoying getting back in to journalling and a couple of pals and I are setting a one word prompt per week to encourage us to continue - this weeks prompt is "KEY"

My journal page for the prompt of "KEY"
And a closer view to show the fabulous iridescence of the Pebeo paint
Materials used:
  • One page from my Crawford and black journal (£1 from The Works) - ungesso'd
  • Snippet of 300gsm card (cream but, frankly, it could have been any light colour) and black card, cut to mat
  • Using a non stick craft mat I brayered Fresco banana over the entire piece, allowed a very short while (this weather) to dry and then mixed Pebeo iridescent green yellow and fresco bora bora randomly on top - leaving plenty of the banana showing.
  • Having placed the Dylusions circles stencil over the top I knocked back the colour through the stencil using a baby wipe
  • Using the Carabelle (MA60052) "scribbly writing" I brayered some of the leftover paint over the back and then pressed on to my page - it didn't show a whole lot but added a little texture and interest (IMHO)
  • Stampotique "Minky Girl" stamped on to white card using Memento tuxedo black ink, coloured with alcohol markers and fussy cut out then adhered on to my painted panel
  • Studio 490 sentiment ("She spoke of art" LCS072) stamped on to the painted panel using Ranger Archival ink
  • Once my panel was adhered to the black matting layer I used a white gelly roll gel pen to doodle a border on the black layer and to draw around the image. I used a bullet tipped white Pitt pen to fill in some of the spaces in my border doodling too
  • Before adhering my panel to the journal page I SHOULD have stamped my Rubber Stampede key around the outer edge but you know what they say about the benefit of hindsight .... so, once my panel was adhered to the journal page I stamped the key image around the outside using Memento London fog ink before hand writing my sentiment using a fine black Sharpie pen, going over the "key" words (sorry, pun INTENDED!!) a second time
I'll be entering the above for the following challenges:
  1. WeLove2Create - challenge No. 10 - ANYTHING MIXED MEDIA GOES - 3rd entry
  2. More Mixed Media - July 5th challenge - ANYTHING MIXED MEDIA GOES + optional twist of Pastel .. which I think it's safe to say I DIDN'T use!
  3. Creative Artiste - challenge No. 40 - ANYTHING MIXED MEDIA GOES - 2nd entry
I also discovered one of my mixed media pieces was selected as a winner over at More Mixed Media for their challenge "ATG + option of purple - thanks so much peeps
