It's Wednesday .. so, it's downhill to the weekend!

Morning readers,

My apologies but this post got away from me a little bit as I have two cards, a journal page to share this morning - I hope you have time to stay with me all the way to the bottom! Appreciate it, along with comments people take the time to leave me, I enjoy reading them so thanks for stopping by.

I've another Christmas card to share with you today, well .. Christmas IS rapidly approaching and I've no wish for it to arrive and for me not to be ready for it!!! It's happened before!

A friend has been posting a weekly challenge over on facebook and, frankly, I've fallen a little behind - this is for her "eight maids a milking" challenge which was set several weeks ago! Ooopsie!

My card
And a closer view of the spotlight colouring

The front, back and inside of my card along with the front and back of my envelope
Materials used:
  • Cream A2/C6, 250gsm, card and matching sized envelope
  • Two pieces of 300gsm cream card cut to fit
  • One piece of red 300gsm card, cut to mat
  • Penny Black image stamped (8 times) and sentiment (from "12 Days of Christmas" 30-016) stamped using Memento tuxedo black ink
  • Precious Remembrance Shop sentiment (from "Sketchy Christmas") stamped using Memento tuxedo black ink
  • Faber Castell polychromos pencils used to colour
  • Stardust stickles and silver pearl drops (for the glass of milk) used to embellish
I'll be entering the above make for the following challenges:-
  1. Cute 'n Crafty - challenge No. 8 - ANYTHING GOES
  2. Crafty Friends - challenge No. 91 - ANIMALS/BIRDS
  3. My Time To Craft - challenge No. 378 - CHRISTMAS IN AUGUST
  4. The Holly And The Ivy - challenge No. 35 - ANYTHING CHRISTMAS GOES
  5. Penny Black - August challenge - ANYTHING GOES + optional twist ON THE MOVE (or on the MOOve in my case!!)
I decided to make another card but this time went with masculine, monochrome and geometric today, though I think this could work for a girlie card - just by changing the colour, don't you? Quick and easy to make too AND gave me the opportunity to ink some NBUS (Never Before Used Stash - an acronym coined by Darnell) in the form of the Mod shapes which I acquired whilst in Colorado earlier this year.
My card

The front, back and inside of my card along with the front and back of my envelope

  • Inkadinkado Stamping Gear image (65.32085 "Mod fun shapes") stamped, multiple times but without the stamping gear tool, using Versafine onyx black ink
  • Avery Elle sentiment (ST-18-07 "Loads of wishes") stamped using Memento tuxedo black ink
  • Zig clean colour brush marker in cool grey used to colour in one line within each square of my "mod" design and Wink of Stella clear glitter gel brush pen to bling up the other!
I'll be entering the above make for the following challenges:-
  1. Crazy4Challenges - challenge No. 449 - MASCULINE CARD
  2. Sweet Stampin' - August 25th challenge - BIRTHDAY or REMAKE
  3. Crafting With Dragonflies - challenge No. 111 - GUY CARD
  4. ScrapBook Stamp Society - challenge No. 148 - ANYTHING GOES with optional MONOCHROME
  5. CASology - challenge No. 311 - FLIP ... I flipped the design to mirror the first two

And now ... an other journal page. Some friends and I are challenging ourselves to make a journal page per week and have been using a one word prompt to get us in the mood. This week the word is "IMMERSE" .... so I immersed myself in "water/sea" and "the age old problem we women wrestle with"!
My journal page
A closer view of the figure
A better view of the foiling and gilding wax
Materials used:
  • One page from my Crawford and Black journal (£1 from the Works)
  • Using a palette knife I applied Fresco bora bora and south pacific paints and also Brunel & Franklin cerulean blue acrylic paint
  • I stamped my image and sentiment (I BELIEVE it was a free set from Acid Drops & Whatnots for Papercraft Essentials) on to snippets of white card using Memento tuxedo black ink and then coloured using Faber Castell polychromos pencils before fussy cutting round it and adhering to my page using Matte medium
  • Using a Stamposaurus chain link stencil and a mixture of modelling paste, cerulean blue paint and iridescent medium I stencilled the lower portion of my page .. to simulate waves for my image to "immerse" herself in!
  • Kaisercraft "script" image stamped both partially and randomly on the upper section of my page using Ranger Archival jet black ink
  • White gesso applied sparingly over the entire page at this point, to knock back the colour and stamping a smidge
  • Using Finnabair alchemy gilding wax and a mini blending tool I sponged through the "seaweed" of Paper Artsy PS093 stencil
  • I also computer generated the answer to "does my bum look big in this" (that age old problem we women wrestle with), printed it and cut it out, I cut "does my bum" in to two pieces so that both sentiments would fit on the same sized tag
  • Using a snippet of white card I die cut two (unbranded) faux stitched tags and attached my sentiments before using Memento Bahama blue ink to brush over the tag and then position Paper Artsy PS093 stencil and brush the same ink again ... like fish scales!
  • Once the tags were adhered to my page I doodled a border round the page and tags, using Posca paint pens in white and black, also adding some journal style words, drifting up the seaweed.
  • With my Tombow multi glue I added some glue to the tag and chain link and set aside to dry, once it had dried clear and tacky I took a sheet of green foil and added some foiling shine
  • Using a Faber Castell water soluble pencil I traced an outline around the figure and blended using a water brush
I'll be entering the above for the following challenges:-
  1. International Art and Soul - challenge No. 40 - MARINE, OCEAN or SEA
  2. WeLove2Create - challenge No. 11 - ANYTHING MIXED MEDIA GOES
  3. More Mixed Media - August 5th challenge - ANYTHING GOES + optional twist of BRIGHT

I went to post this page in the place my friends and I share our weekly journal challenges ..... one of the group had gone with mermaid so I wasn't alone with the sea connection ... she'd painted hers freehand, MUCH more artistic than mine but, that said, I'm happy with my journal page and that's what it's all about, isn't it?

The peeps over at WaterCooler Wednesday picked one of my cards as one of their "WaterCooler Rockers" - thanks peeps, it's always so lovely to hear when people like your work

It's Wednesday, a day for traditionally sharing photos of ones work desk .. mine needed a good tidy up ...

So I did ....

I saw something whilst I was tidying - an idea popped in to  my head and so ... back to square one!

Loving the 8 Maids a Milking festive card! Too funny!

ADORE the geometric card and, as I love drawing Sarntangles and Stacks, it really works for me. Plus I love monochrome no matter what colour you choose as the mono!

That journal prompt would have left me flummoxed but you've done a grand job with it.

CONGRATS on being noted over at Watercooler challenge site too.

Fabulour desk tidying . . . and messing up again! Good on ya!

Phew, am worn out now!

Need a lie down. Wet and dreary in this end of the world! xxx

Well Kathy you have been busy! I love the cute cows for the 'Eight Maids a Milking' and a great idea to highlight just the central one, and your geometric design makes an excellent masculine card. Your journal page made me smile too and love the design with the doodling around the edge, and congratulations on being one of the picks over at the Watercooler Wednesday challenge. x

I just love your mod shapes card, and I don't think you'd need to change the colour for a female at all... I for one love black & white!

Kathy, what a simple but brilliant take on the cue word! It never crossed my mind to just "flip" the stamp image around. I love it! Thanks for playing along with CASology this week!
