Saturday and how is your weekend?

Morning readers,

I've an Artist Trading Coin to share with you this morning, I love the shape and size of these coins - I think I may even like them more than the regular Artist Trading Cards and don't seem to be able to stop myself making them! My pal, Wynneth, got me this fab set of Viva Las Vegas Doctor Who related stamps a while ago and I have already used the TARDIS and more conventional weeping angel images but thought it was time to break out the smaller angel for the smaller scale of the ATCoin.

Friday and it's the start of the weekend ......

Morning readers,

I had a really nice day out yesterday, I met a pal at our local mall, we chatted over coffee and then left the mall (with no shopping!!!) and hit our fave lunch spot for ham, egg and chips (YUM) before I dropped my pal back at the mall - she was heading in to M&S to collect a cake (yum again!). I have more of the same today as I'm meeting another pal for coffee and cake at our local The Range!! Yee Haa - this IS the life!!!

I've a mixed media Artist Trading Card to share with you this morning ... I found that I had an ATC sized snippet of a mixed media (a painted/brayered/gelli printed piece) project left over that was too  nice not to use. I rummaged through my stamp drawers in search of inspiration and lit upon the Sheena Douglass set - I set to work using three images from that set - see below. I don't really "DO" Halloween but this ATC does appear to be channelling that kind of vibe, total accident until I got round to picking the sentiment which, I concede, does rather lean towards Halloween, so I'm calling it a Halloween ATC!

My Artist Trading Card
And a closer view of the colouring and detail
Materials used:
  • ATC blank
  • Snippets of white card and a mixed media painted background
  • Plain and faux stitched nesting rectangles dies
  • Using a mini blender and foam pad (without re-inking from a previous make which used tea dye and rusty hinge distress inks) I added colour over the white card panel
  • Using images from Sheena Douglass journal text (TXT-ST-JOUR) I stamped images using Memento inks: rich cocoa, grey flannel and London fog
  • Stampotique "Moth Fab" stamped on to my ATC (and a second time on to a white snippet) using Memento tuxedo black ink
  • Copic alcohol pens and Faber Castell polychromos pencils used to colour image, once completed I fussy cut out ..... not worrying too much about the REALLY fiddly bits as I had also stamped her on to my coloured panel ....... before running through my Xyron sticker maker and then adhering to my panel, snipping off any overlap
  • Smeared Ink (no longer trading) "Halloween Grumpies" sentiment stamped using Memento tuxedo black ink
I'll be entering the above make for the following challenges:-
  1. Hiding In My Craft Room - challenge No. 371 - ANY HOLIDAY ... Halloween!
  2. Cute 'n Crafty - challenge No. 10 - FALL/HALLOWEEN
  3. Try It On Tuesday - September 18th - SLAP IT ON

This one is for a swap and the theme is "COGS" - a chance to use this Paper Artsy image which doesn't see ink nearly often enough, it's just the perfect size for an ATC too!

Welcome to the start of yet another week

Morning readers,

Hope you all enjoyed your weekend and have arrived at Monday ready to face the week. Don't know how it was with you but the weather was positively SOGGY round these parts! Hope you had something at least a little better. Mind you, it MIGHT  have been the sogginess which inspired my journal page below!

If you are a regular visitor to this blog then you will know that some pals and I challenge one another to make a journal page each week, using a one word prompt. It's my turn to set the word this week and that word (to inspire our creativity)  is "FISH" and here is my make using that prompt!

My journal page .... across the top says "even fish dream of flight" ...
I WONDER if they DO!!!!
Materials used:
  • One page of my Crawford and Black journal (£1 from The Works)
  • Fresco bora bora paint brayered over the lower third of my page and Brunel Franklin cerulean blue and white added to the residual fresco paint and brayered over the top two thirds
  • Using a snippet of white card I stamped a number of fish, the sentiment and the "fish balloon" (from HP1111EZ - gave me a chance to ink up this under used set) using Memento tuxedo black ink and coloured using copic markers before fussy cutting
  • Using matte gel medium I attached the fish, the sentiment and the "fish balloon" to my layout
  • I selected some word stickers (from Tim Holtz Idea-ology - "chit chat" book) and mixed with Dylusions alphabet, stamped using Ranger Archival jet black ink .. so it reads "even fish dream of flying" .... I hope they do!
  • I placed the Paper Artsy stencil (PS093) over my "water and fish" scene and applied gloss gel medium through it, for waves, before setting aside to dry
  • Posca pens in black and white to doodle borders around various pieces, to add interest and further "texture"
I'll be entering the above make for the following challenges:-
  1. Welove2Create - challenge No. 12 - ANYTHING MIXED MEDIA GOES
  2. More Mixed Media - September challenge - ANYTHING MIXED MEDIA GOES + option of USE BROWN

Saturday ... it's the WEEKEND!

Morning readers,

How is the weather with you all? It's been properly wintry here, cold, wet and sooooo blustery too. We've lost a fence panel but, other than that we SEEM to have been relatively lucky. Our trees have not been quite so lucky and they're all NAKED now!!! Ooo-er missus!

Right, on to the ongoing tale of the graduation cards .....I was reaching my wits end with regard to my commission for three graduation cards. I had made two using the exact same image and was struggling to come up with a third idea that was sufficiently different. I made two abortive attempts at a third card and they both went in the bin! Then, like a bolt of lightning I FINALLY remembered that I own the Crazy Things  accessory set which included both a fun mortar board and a diploma AND the Crazy birds set they were designed for - I set to work and this is what emerged from my Table of Craftiness .... and, frankly, I am loving it! I hope you do too, IMHO it was worth the two I wasted!. I'd forgotten how much I loved those crazy birds and it was great to get to ink up the mortar board and diploma, both previously un-inked!

My third graduation card
And a closer view

The front, back and inside of my card along with the front and back of my envelope

Materials used:
  • Cream A2/C6, 250gsm card and matching sized envelope

  • One piece of dark brown card, cut to mat
  • Snippets of card in white, cream, dark brown and DCWV metallic striped
  • Sizzix Framelits (Crazy Birds) used to die cut my outline from a snippet of white card
  • Crazy Bird (CMS212) stamped using Memento tuxedo black
  • Crazy Things mortar board and diploma (CMS237) stamped on to a snippet of white card using Memento tuxedo black ink .. and also on to a full cover post it, which I then used as a mask for stamping the inside, reverse and envelope
  • Sparkle 'n Sprinkle "Celebrate" (from 00-777P7) and Stamplorations "your achievement"  (from their sentiment builder "Celebrate" set) stamped using Memento rich cocoa ink
  • Plain rectangle nesting dies (WeRMemory Keepers) and faux stitched rectangle (MFT) used to cut the image panel, matting layer and sentiment panel
  • Faber Castell polychromos pencils used to colour, blending with Sansodor
  • Dimensional foam used to attach the sentiment panel and the diploma
I'll be entering the above make for the following challenges:-

  5. CardzTV - challenge No. 66 - ANYTHING GOES
HUZZAH! Commission completed .. want to see the first two and missed the original posts? Check them out here and here.

And now for a journal page .... my pals and I are still managing (for the most part) to complete a journal page per week using a one word prompt set by a different one of us each week. This week the word is "BRAVE"

My journal page
Materials used:
  • One page of my Crawford and Black journal
  • I brayered Fresco banana paint over the page and set it aside to dry
  • Next I brayered Pebeo iridescent blue/violet paint over and set aside for a few minutes, to take the edge off the wetness but not to allow the paint to dry
  • Dutchdoobadoo triangle stencil (470.715.120) placed over the drying paint and a baby wipe used to knock back colour through the stencil .... set aside to dry
  • Dylusions stencil (DYS34216 - "checkered dots") through which I sponged Finnabair alchemy gilding was (brushed iron) for the border
  • I used a combination of Kaisercraft (13th hour alpha) and Inkadinkado alphabets (99107) to stamp the words using Versafine ink but then, because it was on to paint I heat embossed using clear embossing powder
  • I stamped the VLV image (from plate #9291) twice (once on to a full coverage post it which I then fussy cut out to use as a mask) on to a snippet of white card, using Memento tuxedo black ink before adding the mask and then stamping the HLS flower (Doodled Flowers) over the mask, using the same ink - Yes, you would HAVE to be BRAVE to fly past flowers that size, wouldn't you?!?!??!?
  • After removing the mask I coloured with copic markers before fussy cutting
  • Using a black sharpie I hand drew my "stem" before attaching my image to the background
With the blue/violet paint "knocked back" through the stencil
I'll be entering the above for the following challenges:-
  1. Creative Artiste - challenge No. 42 - ANYTHING MIXED MEDIA GOES - 2nd entry
  2. WeLove2Create - challenge No. 12 - ANYTHING MIXED MEDIA GOES
  3. More Mixed Media - September challenge - ANYTHING MIXED MEDIA GOES + optional twist of USE BROWN
  4. VLV Stamps - September challenge - FOR THE BIRDS ... a project using the mood board below ... I used my VLV flying person image - and definitely orange from the mood board!

Welcome to mid week!

Morning readers,

Here we are again, half way through the working week ... when I say that I don't mean my working week since I "retired" a number of years ago but, somehow, the weekends always feel a little different to the Monday to Friday thing ..... or is it just me?

Whilst I was rummaging for a particular sentiment (apparently one I WISHED I owned rather than one I actually own, it would seem!!!) I found the Hobby Art set of chickens and was powerless to resist inking at least one of them!!! See if you can see why! As for the sentiment .. I FOUND it, in a Ranger "Letter-It" set, in my head I was looking for CAS-ual Friday, which probably explains how I missed it first pass - DOH! It's turning in to one of THOSE weeks!
