Welcome to the first Monday in September!

Morning readers,

Hope you all enjoyed a great weekend. For us, it was a BBQ with the surrogates! A BBQ! I hear you cry! Yes, but ... the forecast was for decent weather and - most of us struggle to seat nine indoors so a BBQ gets round that one! Surrogate daughter #1 came to collect us (along with real mum) and we shared a cab home - perfick! I suspect this will have been the last of the season too!

Even the surrogate granddog!
And a balloon flypast too
I'm delighted to announce that I have joined the Design Team over at the Love To Craft Challenge Blog and this morning's first make is my inaugural project for them. It's a monthly, Anything Goes challenge, you can enter up to five times and combine with as many challenges as you wish. I hope you will consider popping along and having a go this month too, I'm looking forward to working with the lovely ladies there.

Regular readers will probably recall that a couple of friends and I have been challenging ourselves to complete at least one journal page each week and we've been choosing a one word prompt to get us rolling. This week it is my turn to set the word and I've chosen "DOODLE" - check out my doodle inspired layout below, I've chosen warm autumnal colours of reds, ochre-like yellows and a bright yellow too. It has to be said that this is one of my favourites of the ones I've done lately - not sure why, is it the washi tape (I'm not usually a fan), the colours (what's NOT to love?), the doodling? Or perhaps it's the fab stencil (always good to use new stash) ..... any thoughts?

My journal page
And a closer view of the doodling
Materials used:
  • One page of my Crawford and Black journal (£1 from The Works)
  • Washi tape (two polka dot rolls)
  • Paper Artsy paints used: London Bus, zesty zing, banana and pumpkin soup
  • Paper Artsy stencil PS085
  • Art Impressions sentiment and Dylusions alphabet images stamped using Ranger Archival onyx black ink
  • Posca paint pens (black and white), for the ½ hour of therapeutic doodling and highlighting
In addition to being a Design Team make .. I'll be entering the above make for the following challenges:-
  1. WeLove2Create - challenge No. 12 - ANYTHING MIXED MEDIA GOES
  2. More Mixed Media - August challenge - ANYTHING MIXED MEDIA GOES + optional twist of BRIGHT
And now ... since Christmas is rolling towards us .... I thought I would use the less traditional choice of a turquoise matting layer and also chose navy for the snowman's hat ... just because I could!

My card
And a closer view of the colouring/gloss/sparkle

The front, back and inside of my card along with the front and back of my envelope
Materials used:
  • 15cm square white, 300gsm, scallop edged card and matching sized envelope
  • Two pieces of white card, cut to 13cm and 14cm square
  • One piece of turquoise card, cut to 14cm square
  • I stamped the Snowman and sentiment (from JOFY58) using Memento tuxedo black ink and, with the same ink stamped the "happy Christmas" (from JOFY17) on the insert
  • Faber Castell polychromos pencils used to colour
  • Stardust stickles, Anita's dimensional gloss and Wink of Stella clear glitter gel brush pen used to embellish the image
I really liked the effect with the turquoise ... might even try purple for my next Christmas card!!!

I'll be entering the above for the following challenges:
  1. Winter Wonderland - August 31st challenge - ANYTHING CHRISTMAS GOES
  2. Chrimbo Crackers - challenge No. 166 - ANYTHING CHRISTMAS GOES
  3. Water Cooler Wednesday - challenge No. 185 - ANYTHING GOES
  4. Cute Card Thursday - challenge No. 545 - MAGICAL .. come on, tell me a snowman's not magical!!!
  5. The Holly and The Ivy - challenge No. 35 - ANYTHING CHRISTMAS GOES

Hi, congratulations on your design team job, I bet it'll be loads of fun. I love your journal page, great doodling. I wouldn't have the confidence to do that; I would need a stamp. Your snowman is lovely and such a great sentiment. I'm going to try to remember it for when I need excuses this Christmas. 😀
