By the skin of my teeth - my November scrap challenge!

JUST MADE IT!!! Jacky set a challenge for an Autumnal layout and I nearly didn't make it. First I ran out of magenta ink in my printer and then yellow - it seemed I was destined not to print my photo - I knew exactly which one I wanted to use. THEN, once the cartridges were all in order I set to printing my piccie only to have our anti virus protection tell me that my wifi printer was trying to "attack" my computer and (it announced proudly) it had beaten off the attack ....... and cancelled my print job - GRRRR!! It proceeded to do this a couple of times and I had to call in the I.T. department - aka, my husband. It took him a few m inutes to trawl for the printers IP address and tell my anti virus protection that this IP address was OK. It too a little persuading but FINALLY it printed - Woo Hoo.

Next obstacle was that my friend was coming for coffee yesterday morning and then I was meeting another pal yesterday afternoon at the local mall - it seemed like I would never get this layout done but ..... never one to concede defeat - and, here it is:-

Materials used:

• 12" x 12" white paper
• Stampers Anonymous autumn blueprint images (oak leaf) stamped using versamark ink and diarylide pan pastel applied on the whole sheet
• Stampers Anonymous mini blueprint image (acorn) stamped using versamark ink and then burnt sienna pan pastel applied over the acorn only
• Permanent red pan pastel applied round the edge of the layout
• Photo positioned and Inkadinkado and Papermania alphabet images inked using Versafine black onyx ink
• Dylusions border stamped using Versafine onyx black ink
• Faber Castell pitt pen (S) used to hand write a little journalling

And there you have it! Hope you think it was worth waiting for, Jacky! It was a great challenge and I'm sorry to have been so late and one of only two who submitted a layout - let's hope for more of a turn out for December's challenge!

What's On Your Work Desk Wednesday

Hi folks,

Wednesday again - boy those week's are flashing by .... it's now less than a month to Christmas - how's your Christmas shopping coming along now?

This morning I headed to Cribbs Causeway to meet a crafting pal for coffee, shopping and a natter. I was awake before the alarm and decided to head out earlier than anticipated and see if I could crack on and finish the Christmas shopping ..... and I DID!!! YAY! With the exception of a chocolate based product for hubby's stocking - I'M DONE!! HURRAH! Now, I do love to shop and I enjoy Christmas shopping too but this last present was darn close to defeating me this year. The couple I needed to buy for are lovely people but I was desperately short of inspiration this year - I really do hope they like my gifts.

Anyway, 10:00 rolled round fast enough and I just about had enough time to run back to the car with my bags (yes, bags plural! there were three!) before meeting Lilian at Hobbycraft. We were both armed with 25% discount vouchers and neither of us were afraid to use them!! Sadly all I managed were two £1 stamps and one clear set but hey .... better than a smack in the face with a wet fish!!! Lilian did much better than I did although she had a fight on her hands at the register as one of the items wasn't on their system! Hmmmf! Off to Costa coffee next for a tasty latte - it was really  busy this morning and we felt guilty enough to move on once the lattes were drunk as people were standing around waiting for tables! I gave Lilian a box full of back issues of Craft Stamper as she's new to card making and, shopping safely done, recycling completed - it was time I headed home - to wrap!

WOT? No tags left? Calamity - still, two of the £1 stamps seemed perfectly fitted to the task so I hit the die cutter and made a few more.

Materials used:

• White card die cut in to circles
• Hobbycraft £1 stamps of "To and from" and "baubles" stamped using Versafine onyx black ink
• Copic Atyou Spica glitter pens to add colour
• Crop-a-dile used to punch holes
• Black and white bakers twine as ties
• Red alcohol marker run round the outer edge of the tag

Made using some of this morning's stash ....

I've not participated in WOYWDW for a little while but here's how my work desk looked earlier today. You're right, I HAD to do my die cutting someplace else - memo to self: TIDY THE BLOOMING PLACE UP!!!

Turbulent Tuesday

Morning,

Whilst not actually raining again today there is definitely an air of dampness about and it's really rather windy! Not a day for walking along the river banks, especially with around 200 flood warnings and another huge number of "alerts" - so, what's the alternative? Well, for me, it'll be crafting this morning and visiting this afternoon! I'm off to visit rellies this afternoon but first, I'd like to share this mornings WIP's .....

First a background for an ATC and then a double page in my mini journal (it's 14 x 8½ cm), which I've sadly neglected of late:

Materials used:

• ATC blank
• White card offcut which just so happened to be about 1½ cm larger than ATC sized!
• Dylusions spray ink in lime, Craftynotions spray inks in grass green and poppy and Ranger spray ink in espresso
• Liquid gold leaf drizzled from my pokey tool!

This has been set aside for the gold leaf to dry - as you can see, I've planted my grubby little fingers on two of the gold spots to see if it was dry enough to continue - plainly NOT!!!!

Materials used:

• Mini moleskin journal
• Water spritzer
• Dylusions inks: sunshine yellow
• Craftynotions inks: poppy, grass green
• Ranger inks: espresso
• TCW mosaic tile stencil and water spritzed through, allowed to develop for a second or so and then blotted with kitchen roll

This has now been set aside to dry thoroughly before progressing. And a close up may (just MAY) enable you to see the TCW mask in action)

Monday again - AND it's NOT raining!!!!

Hope your day is going well and that you haven't been too badly affected by the recent "weather" - it's been VILE, hasn't it?

Nothing for it yesterday but to craft - something I've had a week off from and was feeling the urge to rectify last evening. Hubby had gone out and I set to work.

I had joined a small swap (ATC, inchie, rinchie, twinchie or Moo - our choice) recently and needed to make five of whatever I chose. Now, having had a week away from my craft table I discovered that I had lost the power to make a decision!!! YIKES - it looked a little scary here for a moment. I started off spraying a couple of inks on a piece of A4 paper and blotting it. I had an image in mind, decided it wouldn't show so went for another image. Inked it, stamped it, hated it and moved on to plan B. I set aside the "hated" ATC and set to work on others ....... happily crafting away to Arthur Christmas on the telly! Hubby came home and I blithely showed him what I'd been up to in his absence, his favourite? My hated ATC!!! TYPICAL! I slept on it ...... got up this morning and yep, I agree, I liked the "hated" ATC best of the bunch so set to work making four more to match it.

Now, sadly, this means I can't share it with you until after the swaps have been sent out but I CAN share the ATC's I moved on to and which are now my "spares"!!

Materials used:

• ATC blank coloured using Distress Ink in Festive Berries, applied with a Tim Holtz blending tool
• Hero Arts Flourish inked using Distress Ink Festive Berries
• Hero Arts sentiment stamped using Versafine onyx black ink
• Inkadinkado reindeer image stamped on to white card using Versafine onyx black ink and cut out and adhered to my main ATC.
• Crystal stickles to highlight.

Don't you just love the rich red of that distress ink?

Materials used:

• ATC blank coloured using Distress Inks: iced spruce and pine needles
• Dylusions spray ink (grass green) spritzed centrally and blotted using kitchen roll.
• Hero Arts sentiment stamped using Versafine onyx black ink
• Penny Black pine bough inked using versamark ink and sprinkled with black sparkle embossing powder before heating

I LOVE that pine bough image and was pleasantly surprised by the effect of the distress inks/spray inks too

Materials used:

• ATC blank spritzed with crafty notions spray ink in POPPY
• Inkadinkado snowflakes and a seasonal sentiment (from Target) inked using Versafine onyx black
• Inkadinkado reindeer stamped twice (using Versafine onyx black ink), once on to ATC blank and second time on to white card and cut out. Using small 3D foam I decoupaged it
• Crystal stickles to highlight

The reindeer image is so fab I wonder I don't use it more!

Materials used:

• ATC blank coloured using Distress Inks: iced spruce and pine needles
• Inkadinkado snowflake image inked using D.I. iced spruce and highlighted with crystal stickles
• Hero Arts sentiment stamped using Versafine onyx black ink
• Inkadinkado tree (from the same set as the fab reindeer and snowflake - aren't they a fab set?) stamped on to white card using versamark ink and green glitter embossing powder and then cut out
• Faux crystal gemstone adhered to top of tree

However, here is a little teaser of the swap ATC I went with - hope you like it.

Sunday - and it's still raining!

Yes, dear readers, with the exception of three hours on Friday (when it was actually quite pleasant) it hasn't stopped raining on the Purple Palace since Thursday!  I suspect hubby may soon be commencing work on an ark! and I'm hoping the postie will be able to get through with my order of snorkel and flippers!

Anyhoo, enough on the VILE weather - there's a new challenge over on the Pan Pastels blog where you don't HAVE to use Pan Pastels but you DO get the chance to win a starter kit - sound good? Then why not pop over and try your luck - this week's challenge? It's "FROSTY AND BRIGHT" ...... thinking caps on, crafters!

Materials used:

• 14½cm square 300 gsm scallop edged white card and matching envelope
• 14cm square of snowball paper
• 13½cm square white card panel
• Inkadinkado penguins stamped twice using Versafine onyx black ink on to white card and a second time on to a post it - to cut out and use as a mask - positioned over the images on the white card panel.
• Inkadinkado snowflakes stamped using Versamark ink on to the white card panel before applying pan pastels in blues and greys and then setting with hairspray
• Alcohol markers to highlight the penguins headgear
• Sparkle 'n Sprinkle sentiment stamped using Versafine onyx black ink
• Crystal stickles to highlight snowflakes and "ice"

Soggy Saturday!

Is it soggy and wild with you this morning? Oh My Goodness, it's been raining a lot this past week and I feel for all those in the flood warning areas living on lower ground. More rain coming today so please take all precautions and stay safe.

Having been in a crafting desert all week - what's with one blooming Christmas tag since last Sunday!!!???? Of course, with Saturday seeing a new challenge over on the Simply Less Is More blog  there was always the possibility that the drought was over!!! And the new challenge? It's: GLAMOUR AND GLITZ!

Materials used:

• 300gsm white deckle edged card and matching envelope
• Black card for matting
• Rubber Stampede image stamped using Versafine onyx black ink - reckon she looks glamorous - don't you?
• With a Quickie glue pen I drew over the glamorous young lady's boots, handbag clasp, necklace and earring and set aside to let it dry to clear and tacky before laying a sheet of copper foil over the image and burnishing.
• Additionally, I added a quick zig zag of stickles in frosted lace (to ground the image) and two faux crystal gemstones to complete the glamour and glitz look of the otherwise monochrome card

Hope you think it works! And now ..... how did yesterday's tag turn out? Well this morning I took my ink duster (thanks again, Wynneth) and some tumbled glass ink and added colour round the outside, A Hero Arts sentiment in Memento Paris dusk ink and then drew round the tag as close to the edge as I could manage using the frosted lace stickles ....

Friday post and Funny!

Hope anyone in the U.S. reading this had a great Thanksgiving yesterday - anyone off to take advantage of the Black Friday sales? I know our U.S. neighbours won't be .... they'll be busy putting up their Christmas tree - GOOD LUCK Roger!

My goodness what a wet and wild couple of days we've had here, I think I can honestly say that it hasn't stopped raining in the last two days - at all!!! Imagine the relief felt this morning to wake up and discover that it has FINALLY stopped raining! Just as well as I have cards to post off to America and Australia as well as some to European destinations - including the prize packet to Katiejane, for her winning caption!

I've been missing in action from my table of craftiness because of one or two things (lack of inspiration being just one of them!) and have also neglected my bloggy too - sorry, readers - did you miss me?

Not much crafting this morning although I AM waiting for modelling paste and glitter to dry before I can finish a tag ....

Materials used:

• 260 gsm card die cut using a Go Kreate fancy tag die
• Modelling paste, brass stencil, low tack tape (to hold my stencil in place) and a spatula
• Mini glitter spoons, paper and ultrafine glitter in red, green and blue

Once the modelling paste has fully dried I shall debate how to finish the tag. Some options are:

1. Distress Ink blended around the outside (red or blue?)
2. Hand drawn line border, probably using either a blue or black fineliner
3. Stickles glitter border (Silver or blue I'm thinking)

Any preferences, readers? I'll probably use blue/white bakers twine or narrow pale blue satin ribbon as a tie for my tag. Hope you all approve. I hope to get more crafting done today but that will be for tomorrow's blog ...... hopefully!

As for me, well, we don't "do" Thanks Giving Day but we did put our tree up this week too. Hubby went up in the loft and brought down loads of boxes (to dispose of) and also all of the Christmas decorations. My spare bedroom looked like a war zone and the only way out seemed to be to put up the Christmas decorations so that the boxes could be returned to the loft for the duration!!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!!!

The man screams and reaches for something, anything, but all he can find is .......... a bottle of cough syrup!




Desperate by this time, he throws the cough syrup at the casket...

One of my crafting pals made some glorious wrapping paper recently which gave me an idea to make some to match my tags - like her though, there is NO WAY I plan to duplicate this by the number of presents left to wrap!!! See below and I THINK you will see why.

It's official - I've finished writing my Christmas cards - blimey - how many!? How many do you all write? Am I overdoing it at 61 handmade cards? I've cut my list down a little since giving up work in 2007 but it still seems like such a lot and cards are heading to European, American and Australian destinations - hence my starting to write them this week. I've done a few a day so I didn't get writers cramp!

Hubby's headed off to the flying field where his idea of fun is to stand out in 4°c temperatures and fly model planes! Brrr - wouldn't suit me but I'm so glad he has a hobby. Me? I've been indoors indulging in a fix of Christmas!

On the Pan Pastels blog their new challenge has been launched and it is: RED and GREEN, a TRADITIONAL CHRISTMAS!

Materials used:

• White, 14 cm square, 300 gsm, scallop edged card and matching envelope
• 13½ cm square panel of dark green card (will be using the offcut as a matting layer for my image)
• 13 cm square panel of white card
• FOR THE BACKING PAPER: - Inkadinkado flourishes (snowflake and holly) mounted on to one acrylic block and stamped using versamark ink.
• Permanent red Pan Pastel applied liberally to the stamped flourishes and then buffed before setting with hairspray
• FOR THE IMAGE PANEL: - Petaluma Santa image inked using Memento tuxedo black
• Alchol markers to colour
• Narrow white satin ribbon tied in to a knot off centre
• Penny Black sentiment inked using Versafine onyx black
• Crystal stickles to highlight

Hope you like it and wish me luck, those lovely people over at PP's offer a prize of some pan pastels for the winning entry ..... and I don't have many!

Woo Hoo it's Saturday and the sun is trying to shine - wish it luck!

Saturday once again and the sun is trying hard to peek out from behind the clouds, still less than 10°c here though so it seems unlikely to be hugely successful ...... but I've been wrong before!

Challenge day over on the fabulous Simply Less Is More blog and today's challenge is "HARDWARE"!! Interested? Why not pop along and have a look, keen LIM-ettes seem to be lying in wait for the challenge to appear at 08:00 each Saturday and then dash off to make their Clean And Simple card to enter. I do love the concept of Clean And Simple though I must be honest some of my CAS cards work better than others so I don't claim to QUITE have it cracked yet, but have every intention of entering weekly till further notice!

Back to the challenge - I immediately thought of some metal letters I've had for a while when I thought HARDWARE but then realised that the reason I'd thought of them was because Chrissie had already used them! DOH! Back to the drawing board, anyway, here's my card ....

Materials used:

• 12½ cm square white 250 gsm card and matching envelope
• 13cm length of metal tape, run through a hardware style embossing folder
• Anita's key image inked in permanent black ink on to shrink plastic, a hole punched in the key handle and then .... well, shrunk!
• Metal tape and key image dabbed with a Tim Holtz blending tool and felt pad, using pink, plum, turquoise and gold alcohol inks
• A hole was punched in the metal tape before peeling off the backing and my key attached using a gold coloured brad before attaching to the card
• My Imagine That sentiment and Papermania sentiment was then inked directly on to the base card using Versafine onyx black ink.

I should probably also point out that I cut the tape in half lengthwise and repeated the above process, for the insert and used just a stamped key image. I figure I covered the hardware element pretty completely by using the industrial style embossing folder, the metal tape, metal alcohol inks AND door hardware in the form of the key - do you think I did?!?!? I'm also entering this card in the challenge over on Our Creative Corner where their challenge is "ALCOHOL INKS" - with thanks to Clare for mentioning their challenge

I'm just waiting on my pal to select a winning caption for the rice pudding photo from last weekend peeps!

An early Thanksgiving Funny today ..... read on!

Morning readers,

Here we are at Friday again, where HAS the last week gone? Well both hubby and I have been seeing off colds and here's hoping we're about there now. After all these leaps with medicine you would surely think a cure for the common cold couldn't be that hard - could it? Ah well - what's a lost week here and there!

Wednesday evening saw us at the home of surrogate daughter #2 and her partner, for the purpose of drawing our Secret Santa partners. Nick's partner, Alan, cooked for us and we all left the table super stuffed, rather like a Christmas turkey. The draw, needless to say, didn't take very long - even quicker than usual as no-one managed to select themselves this year!! Obviously, I can't tell you who hubby and I drew - just in case one or more of them checks in on my bloggy but, suffice it to say I was delighted with choice as I immediately knew what I wanted to get for that person and just have to hope they will be as pleased to open said giftie which is going to be in three parts! Sadly, hubby has not been so lucky as he doesn't have a clue what he will get his S.S. partner - he's only got two presents to buy ..... S.S. and MINE!!!! The rest of the Christmas shopping is coming along apace thank heavens and I've started wrapping as gifts are completed - pheww! My little pile of wrapped parcels is growing as my unwrapped pile dwindles - can hardly wait to put the tree up now and place them all around the base - YAY. It's beginning to feel a bit like Christmas!! What is it? 40 Days? Yikes - best I get shopping!

I've also started writing my Christmas cards and, once again, the unwritten pile gets smaller as the written pile gets bigger - funny how that happens! Looks like I have enough hand made cards again this year - HUZZAH, so, any extras I make between now and Christmas will probably go toward next year now! I DO have to make a special one for my dear hubby though.

Having this cold has meant that I've not really felt much like crafting hence my lack of a daily post this week. I must, however, be feeling a smidge better as I got up this morning with a burning desire to do a journal page and to use one of the sentiments from my recent acquisitions from Lost Coast and Studio 490 which I think you'll understand in light of my craft free "wasted few days"!

Materials used:

• A4 journal page
• Pan Pastels in yellows/blues/greens which I then set with the last of my Winsor & Newton fixative!
• Kaisercraft background image , Tim Holtz pointing hand and Dylusions leaf trail inked using Memento bamboo
• Creative Expressions chicken wire inked using Versacolour orchid
• Dylusions check border "path" inked using Memento bright blue (can't remember what it's properly called) and another beneath, using Memento Paris Dusk
• Stampa Rosa face inked using Memento London Fog
• Close to the Heart numbers inked using Memento rosebud
• Inkadinkado circles inked using Memento Dandelion
• Studio 490 sentiments inked using Versafine onyx black
• Lost Coast Designs image inked using Memento grape jelly, cut out and edged/coloured with alcohol markers
• A little doodling using signo uniball in pink and orange

And there you have it - a journalling page to explain my lost week ...... the voices? Well those MUST have been the ones telling me to get shot of that cold and get back to doing something creative!!! Ya reckon?

With Thanksgiving in the U.S. being next Thursday (22nd)  this weeks Friday Funny seemed appropriate!

Over on the I Love Pro Markers blog there's a new challenge - it's #143 and its theme is CHRISTMAS TREES. Now, I have quite a few images of Christmas trees (if you ask my hubby he would say far too many!) so I just might settle down and have a go at this challenge later.

I shall be at the hospital when this publishes, having a follow up physio appointment as it's been a year since my surgery - where DOES the time go?

I'm so very pleased that Wynneth and Tom passed through, stopping for a cuppa, before I decided to keep Kleenex in business single handedly!! It was great to see you both and I really HOPE you don't catch my cold peeps.

I've pinched Debs photo as she bought EXACTLY the same set as me but she was smart and bought hers personally whilst in Snazzy's last Thursday whereas I didn't order mine (from That's Crafty) until Friday morning. Hope you don't mind me pinching your pic Debs

Morning and welcome to another week- a little competition for you too

Hi there,

Yesterday was a funny old day - it was 3°c when we got up and reached the balmy heights of about 9°c as the day wore on - not exactly spring like but hey ...... I stayed in and I crafted! Hubby went to the flying field but came home early as it was so cold.

Yesterday afternoon he was across at the neighbours, doing a few bits and bobs. Said neighbour/pal very kindly offered to cook Sunday lunch around 4:30 is for us both - works for me!!! Now this neighbour/pal doesn't do dessert so imagine our delight when she dished up a splendid big bowl of the PERFECT comfort food, a lovely rich creamy rice pudding! Well, I can't remember the last time Debbie served a dessert that was more than fruit or ice cream (all perfectly acceptable desserts but .... on a cold day nothing beats comfort food now - does it?) so we had to have it recorded for posterity so .... here it is - me with all the essentials for a perfect meal ..... a great big glass of chilled white and a steaming bowl of rice pud! Uh and the jar of mint sauce should be giving you all a clue as to the main course - YUMMMM! Thanks Debbie

And, after that, we also came home with a dessert doggy bag too! My pal suggested a CAPTION competition ..... if I get 10 or more suggested captions (play nice, people!!) for the above photo then I will ask my pal to pick a winner and there may even be a prize - I'll keep it open till Friday 16th November - NOW CLOSED

I'm staying in today as I'm waiting on both a collection and a delivery and my new Sir Tim of Holtz blueprint minis have just turned up too! I shall most probably be batch making Christmas tags - and I'll share this first one with you and see what you all think.

Materials used:

• Kraft card die cut using a Go Kreate tag die
• Sparkle 'n Sprinkle snowman image and Hero Arts sentiment stamped using Versacolour onyx black ink
• Copic atyou Spica glitter pens and white gel pen (Uniball) to colour
• Red/white bakers twine
