Another Friday? Must be time for the Friday Funny ..

Morning

My regular readers will recall that I swap ATC materials with a buddy on the Isle of Skye and, earlier this week, I got my latest batch of materials. Yesterday I set to work on them and this is what I came up with ..

I struggled with the stylised flower and enormous leaves but ....
see below ....
My ATC
And here's how it got this way ..

Layer One, brayered paints
Layer Two - Patterned card stuck on to my brayered panel
Layer Three - A thin layer of gesso to mute the colours so they don't detract from my focal image
Layer Four was stamping, Layer Five was the addition of the flower
Layer Six was the addition of dimension with the partial and "curled" flowerflower
You can see the "curled" petals of the second layer just a little better here
With the matting I  think that totals SEVEN layers!!!
Materials provided:
  • Piece of hexagon patterned card and a piece of white card which had been stamped with three of the same hydrangea image
Additionally I used the following:
  • ATC blank
  • Snippet of brown card, cut to ATC size
  • Snippet of white card cut slightly smaller than ATC size and on to which I brayered fresco paints in Bora Bora and South Pacific, Deco Art metallic bronze and Pebeo iridescent yellow green acrylic paints
  • I cut out a piece of the hexagon card and adhered to my brayered card panel using Cosmic Shimmer glue
  • Once dry I coated the entire piece with a thin coat of white gesso, to mute the brightness of the colours
  • Dimensions faux brick image stamped using Ranger Archival watering can ink
  • Whilst that dried I coloured two of the images provided, using alcohol markers and fussy cut out, one in its entirety and a selected panel of another, cutting deeper in to each petal so I could curl the petal to simulate real life petals
  • I stamped the JOFY sentiment on to a piece of white card and cut out in chunks before running through my Xyron sticker maker in order to attach to my ATC
  • Once my flower was attached I placed the second (curled) piece over the top using Cosmic Shimmer glue
  • Using a white Faber Castel Big Pitt pen in white I doodled a border
  • Using a black Faber Castell Pitt pen "S" thickness I drew around the sentiment
  • Stardust stickles to highlight the blooms and bricks

I'll be entering the above make for the following challenges:
  1. Crafting from the heart - challenge No. 126 - ANYTHING GOES
  2. Through The Craft Room Door - September 6th challenge - ANYTHING GOES
  3. Our Daily Bread - challenge No. 278 - DOTS or DASHES (I drew dots around the outside of my make)
  4. Crafty Cardmakers - challenge No. 172 - LAYER IT UP - Seven Layers! I checked the rules, an ATC appears to fit the bill too!
  5. Simon Says Stamp - Wednesday challenge September 7th - STAMP IT

I shall be sending her these materials and will be most interested to see what she makes of them.

You can see my ATC on the right

And now for the Friday Funny .... this week's laugh is provided by my pal, SandraT ... you're in the draw mate!

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Caller:  'I deleted a file from my PC last week and I just realized that I need it.
So, if I turn my system clock back two weeks will I get my file back again?'

----------------------------------------------------------------------

This has to be one of the funniest things in a long time. I think this guy should have been promoted, not fired. This is a true story from the WordPerfect Helpline, which was transcribed from a recording monitoring the customer care department..............
Needless to
say the Help Desk employee was fired; however, he/she is currently suing the WordPerfect organization for 'Termination without Cause.'

Actual dialogue of a former WordPerfect Customer Support employee.
(Now I know why they record these conversations!):

Operator:         'Ridge Hall, computer assistance; may I help you?'
Caller:              'Yes, well, I'm having trouble with WordPerfect ...'
Operator:         'What sort of trouble?'
Caller:              'Well, I was just typing along, and all of a sudden the words went away.'
Operator:         'Went away?'
Caller:              'They disappeared'
Operator:         'Hmm. So what does your screen look like now?'
Caller:              'Nothing.'
Operator:         'Nothing??'
Caller:              'It's blank; it won't accept anything when I type.'
Operator:         'Are you still in WordPerfect, or did you get out?'
Caller:              'How do I tell?'
Operator:        'Can you see the 'C: prompt' on the screen?'
Caller:              'What's a sea-prompt?'
Operator:         'Never mind, can you move your cursor around the screen?'
Caller:              'There isn't any cursor; I told you, it won't accept anything I type..'
Operator:         'Does your monitor have a power indicator?'
Caller:              'What's a monitor?'
Operator:         'It's the thing with the screen on it that looks like a TV.
Does it have a little light that tells you when it's on?'
Caller:               'I don't know.'
Operator:          'Well, then look on the back of the monitor and find where
the power cord goes into it. Can you see that??'
Caller:              'Yes, I think so.'
Opera tor:         'Great. Follow the cord to the plug, and tell me if it's
                         plugged into the wall..
Caller:              'Yes, it is.'
Operator:         'When you were behind the monitor, did you notice that
there were two cables plugged into the back of it, not just one? '
Caller:               'No.'
Operator:          'Well, there are. I need you to look back there again and
                          find the other cable.'
Caller:               'Okay, here it is.'
Operator:          'Follow it for me, and tell me if it's plugged securely into
                          the back of your computer..'
Caller:               'I can't reach.'
Operator:          'OK. Well, can you see if it is?'
Caller:               'No..'
Operator:          'Even if you maybe put your knee on something and lean way over?'
Caller:               'Well, it's not because I don't have the right angle -- it's because it's dark.'
Operator:          'Dark?'
Caller:               'Yes - the office light is off, and the only light I have is
                          coming in from the window.'
Operator:          'Well, turn on the office light then.'
Caller:               'I can't.'
Operator:          'No? Why not?'
Caller:              'Because there's a power failure.'
Operator:           'A power .... A power failure? Aha. Okay, we've got it
licked now. Do you still have the boxes and manuals and

packing stuff that your computer came in?'
Caller:                'Well, yes, I keep them in the closet..'
Operator:           'Good. Go get them, and unplug your system and pack it

up just like it was when you got it.
 Then take it back to
the store you bought it from.'
Caller:                'Really? Is it that bad?'
Operator:           'Yes, I'm afraid it is.'
Caller:                'Well, all right then, I suppose. What do I tell them?'
Operator:           'Tell them you're too stupid to own a computer!'

Have a great weekend everyone

Welcome to What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday

Morning

I wasn't overly well over the weekend and I really SHOULD (at my age) know when to stay away from the Table of Craftiness but ... sadly, this is one lesson I have NOT learnt! Normal service SHOULD resume soon!

My card
The inside of my card and reverse of my envelope
The front and  back of my card
Materials used:
  • 10cm square white, 250gsm card blank and matching sized envelope
  • Two 9cm square white card panels
  • Two red card panels for matting with a 1.6mm border
  • Snippets of red and white - for my sentiment panels
  • Bird, "tis the season" (by My Minds Eye) and Inkadinkado sentiment images stamped using Ranger Archival jet black ink
  • My Minds Eye stars stamped using Delicata Gold Glitz ink
  • Distress Marker in fired brick used water colour style to add colour to the bird along with red glitter glue for the berries
  • Stardust stickles to bling it up a bit
  • I ran the matted sentiment through my Xyron sticker maker

Now I like this card but ... sometimes life conspires against you and it was not without trauma! I wonder how many of my eagle eyed readers will spot my "deliberate" mistakes?!?!?!?!

Well, you might guess that I wasn't happy with the result of my "bad day at the ToC" ... so, convinced I COULD improve upon the Mark I version I headed back to the ToC ..... maybe it was a dunces cap the bird was wearing!!!!???? The result? A "same but different" make ..

Seconds out .. ROUND II!
The front and back of my "same but different" card and the front of my envelope
The inside of my "same but different" card and the reverse of my envelope

My regular visitors will recall that I swap ATC materials with a buddy on the Isle of Skye and have received my latest batch

Incoming materials from ATC buddy Pam
Here's what I sent her last time (below left) and what she made from the materials - so you will get an idea of how our materials swap works ... when I send back my ATC made with the above materials I shall also enclose my original - made using duplicates of the materials below .. so we each see one anothers take using the same materials - cool, huh?

Materials ... which Pam managed to turn in to not one but two ATC's!

And now, since it IS What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday #379, I've a sneaky peek of my workspace to share with you ... it will also be entry #22

Sunday, 4 September 2016

Hey there .. it's Sunday morning again ....

Hi there readers, how's your weekend coming along?

I've some journaling to share with you again today .... it's odd but I never seem to get as many comments when I add journal pages to my blog ... is it because my followers don't journal, my journaling's not up to much or is it that other entrants to mixed media challenges don't blog hop much ... I wonder. I'm just curious .. I have no intention of giving up with the journaling as I so enjoy the freedom.

My journal page
Materials used:-
  • One page of my A5 journal ... it had previously been gesso'd, painted and stamped but I was neer happy enough with it to finish it ..... so, started again by brayering some freso paints in squid ink and bora bora, lightening the squid ink a smidge with some regular white acrylic to knock back some of the colour intensity.
  • Using a JOFY criss cross border image stamped around the outer edge using Color Box white ink
  • Crafters Companion chevrons and grungy star in a circle stamped using Ranger Archival cobalt blue
  • Crafters Companion circles and grungey blot stamped using Ranger Archival watering can ink
  • Crafters Companion larger stain stamped using Ranger Archival sepia ink
  • Stampers Anonymous letters stamped randomly (and partially) using Ranger Archival watering can ink
  • Stampotique "Moth Fab" image stamped on to a snippet of white card using Ranger Archival jet black ink and coloured using Sharpie markers
  • Once Moth Fab was cut out (leaving a white border to give her definition from the grey background  I adhered her using Cosmic Shimmer glue.
  • Wendy Vecchi's Studio 490 (for Stampers Anonymous) sentiments stamped using Ranger Archival jet black ink and highlighted using a white Signo Uniball gel pen

I'll be entering this for the following challenges:-
  1. Pixie's Crafty Workshop - challenge No. 245 - USE AT LEAST ONE SNIPPET
  2. Creative Artiste - challenge No. 18 - ANYTHING (mixed media) GOES

Friday, 2 September 2016

Welcome to the weekend .. bit of a marathon mixed media post today ..

Morning peeps,

Summer School is back on the private blog I belong to, the talented Clare Lloyd has stepped up to the plate for the past couple of years and come up with some very diverse and creative projects to keep us out of mischief in the school holidays ..... This year's project was a box canvas but she declared that we could use what stash we had .... so an A5 journal stepped up to be my take on the class of 2016!

We've been going through all of our old photographs and getting rid of those we no longer love .. I saw this one and thought it seemed perfect for my project, just love the joyful expression which doesn't seem to be simply confined to my face!

Materials used:
  • A5 Journal page which had been coated with white gesso
  • Creative Expressions text image stamped randomly using stazon vibrant violet ink
  • Kaisercraft script image stamped randomly using stazon gothic purple ink
  • TCW293S stencil used with Ranger white pearl dabber and Paper Artsy fresco paint in orchid, applied using a piece of cut and dry
  • Once dry a wash of acrylic ink (a blend of purple lake and silver pearl, to add a sheen) was brushed over the top of lesson one. Being translucent the base layer shows through
  • Using a Stamposaurus stencil and an almost dry baby wipe I knocked back some of the colour, adding more texture to the mix
  • Time for a little stamping ... I stamped some Stamplorations boxed words on to white card and the ? sentiment/words directly on to my page using Ranger Archival jet black ink.
  • Using cool grey and violet zig clean colour brush markers I coloured the sentiment
  • Lost Coast Stamps image stamped on to tissue paper using Ranger Archival cobalt blue ink and, once totally dry, I split the tissue layers and adhered using matte gel medium
  • The video of our summer school project showed a hand drawn face .. and I'm so rubbish at faces ... and ... well, HAD to be done!
  • I used a quickie glue pen and some pink foil .. which didn't react BRILLIANTLY with the matte gel medium and also a Faber Castell big Pitt pen to doodle in some of the "waves"!
And here's how it all started .....

Lesson One started with gesso then stamping and  a layer of acrylic paint through a stencil
Lesson two added a watercoloured layer of acrylic ink and some of the
colour knocked back with a stencil and a baby wipe
Some stamping on to white card and also directly on to my journal page
A little water colouring, for definition
Stamping on to tissue
My tissue layer, separated from the rest and stuck down using matte gel medium

I will be entering this for the following challenges:
  1. Welove2create - challenge No. 18  - ANYTHING (mixed media) GOES
  2. More mixed media challenge - August challenge - ANYTHING GOES
  3. Mixed media world - challenge No. 17 - SUMMER/SEA/NAUTICAL well ... vacation and water SHOULD count (I hope!)
I'll be attending a scrap booking retreat later this month and it made me focus on a project hubby and I have been talking about doing for some little while now. What's that? That would be sorting through 35 years worth of hard copy photographs and negatives. Remember when we took 35mm photos? I'm astonished I took so many when I had to pay to have every one developed! Over the years we've accumulated DOZENS of albums full of photos and memories but .. how often do we look at them?

These are just the negatives!!!
Does that give you an idea of the scale of the problem? We went through the albums and each picked out those photos we still want to keep and then it was my job to try to marry the photos with the negatives - not an easy job, after all ... when you're young who thinks to number the photos and the negatives to make them easy to match? NOT ME it would seem! I'm about 80% done now though and I ONLY have about a dozen I've not been able to find the negatives for. I've tried photographing the photograph in case I never find them ..... do you think this worked?

This was me (and a couple of friends) waaaay back in 1991!!
Still, once I'm finished I should have loads of photos to scrapbook later in the month!! Re-SULT!

And now for this week's Friday Funny for which we may all blame my pal, Mary - thanks mate!

Have a great weekend
