I've been wrestling with a little project for much of the day - not a difficult one you might think but it sure proved trickier than anticipated. It came to me in a dream, much like the Dolly Mama card of yesterday! so I had no reason to suppose it wouldn't work but hey . . . . . nobody ever said life was simple (though I hear Meerkats think life is Schimples!)! I started off this morning by printing a photograph on photo paper, cutting it down to 4" x 4", applying double sided sheet adhesive and then sticking to black mount board. Easy peasy but this was where it all started to go pear shaped! Now my jig saw die is a Quickutz die (hence my having to cut the photo to 4" x 4") and my Big Shot only arrived yesterday so it didn't come as a huge surprise that my first attempt wasn't overly successful. I tried several permutations of layers and boards, etc and, ultimately, managed to let the piece slip so scrapped the first one. I printed a second photo and used my Xyron to apply adhesive before attaching to a piece of regular thickness card instead . . . . MORE successful but not perfect however, I decided to quit whilst I was still winning and what didn't pull apart I cut using a very small pair of scissors!! It seemed like such a good idea when I thought of it!!! Anyhoo, I then set about making a little pouch to gift wrap said jig saw and here you see the finished results. I hope you think it worked (more or less)!!!!

Morning all

Hi there,

Here I am, determined not to make a Christmas card today but wondering what I can do ...... Wide awake at 06:00 again this morning with an idea for a stocking present (do check back later as I got overtaken with another idea first!!!) and definitely taken with Lauren's themed challenge of decorations. I trawled youtube and found this - a really really simple ornament . . . check out the tutorial here, I even used the same DCWV Winter paper stack!!! - AND discovered that they are actually 6" x 4½"!!! but hey! I used three sheets and cut them in to 1" strips and punched holes through the stack using the larger hole punch on my crop-a-dile, I had a HUGE amount of white organza ribbon which was very slightly wider than specified so I used an extra couple of inches . . . aside from that there are no other materials required other than a smidge of glue from your glue gun - it's that simple.

Evening all,

I spent this afternoon doing errands and stuff! but hubby was going out this evening which left me free to unpack, assemble and play with my new toy - a Big Shot!!! Tell you what, it's a big ole thing compared to my Quickutz . . . . hope I'm going to be able to find somewhere for it to live! Shame they were all black and pink .... a black and purple one would have been about PERFECT!!!!

Isn't it funny how you can be desperate to play with a new toy and suddenly your mind goes blank and you can't think of a thing to do?!?!? Hmm, this didn't bode well so I simply set about die cutting a few shapes . . . dull but useful. Then I decided to make a simple Christmas tree decoration - just to prove it works!!! So I took my newest die (arrived in the box with the Big Shot) which was too big to buy previously as it wouldn't go through my Quickutz with its 4" roller . . . I used one piece of Green and one piece of red glitter card from a DCWV Christmas glitter stack and die cut two each of the ornate die cut and two of the plain circle (a nellie snellen die cut). I lightly sanded the centre of the green circle in order to provide a "key" for the red circle to adhere to. I used a length of narrow white satin ribbon (Michaels - 3 for $1 recently) to provide a hanging loop and sandwiched between my two green die cut circles. I had previously bought some wooden reindeer from Hobbycraft and selected the green reindeer from this set (but these were the dullest) so, once adhered to the red circle I decided to bling them up with Crystal stickles! Hope you like this tree ornament and I hope to get more adventurous with my die cutter tomorrow!

Think I must be working on 2011!

Even though I've made over 100 Christmas cards and sent out about as many as I plan to (with some left - at the moment!) I don't seem to be able to stop myself making Christmas cards . . . . Lauren did a simple but clever sketch for this weeks challenge and I've already made a couple of sketchie cards in response to this challenge.

However, I found myself wide awake at stupid o'clock and whilst waiting for sleep to claim me once more I found myself planning another card . . . . Laurens sketch showed a tall thin image panel and, so far, I hadn't really utilised a tall thin image . . . . enter stage left in to my imagination my Dolly Mama Christmas image! Right, next bit then . . .  I stamped the image in memento tuxedo black ink before colouring in using pro markers, Atyou Spica and Sakura glitter pens. I cropped the image fairly closely and matted with a very narrow black border. I had some Papermania Christmas papers and selected the red spotty paper ..... at this point I made the decision to go tall and thin and selected a cream DL base card. I cut a black layer very close in size to the DL card and then the spotty paper very slightly smaller again. On to this I layered a panel of black card across the width  and then a slightly narrower strip (an offcut) of DCWV shimmer burgundy card. I had a piece of silver holographic card which seemed the right height so merely cut it just slightly wider than my image panel. I then added two red faux gemstones (to the white spots top left) to finish it off, and there you have it! I like it and hope you do too.

We've had parcel post, regular post and a courier delivery today . . . lots of lovely Christmas cards, so thank you to all who have sent me and my hubby a card. A box of really funky slippers (for a couple of friends, though now I'm wishing I'd ordered myself a pair too) and . . . .  my Christmas present from me to ME!! . . .  a BIG SHOT!! which I've been very good and have yet to unpack until after I'd finished this card and I need to run a couple of errands this afternoon and then I can PLAY!!! All I need now is stamperdog to assist in the unpacking - see him here

And the themed challenge for this coming week is decorations!! I've chosen tree decorations! I took delivery of some new nellie snellen dies earlier this week and that's how I made this first one, using three different sized dies and cutting two outer and two inner. I sandwiched some very narrow satin ribbon between the two swinging shapes and glued together. I then looped the ribbon so that I would have a "hanger" before sticking the two larger shapes together. I then stamped the Papermania bauble in versamark ink and sprinkled red tinsel embossing powder which I then melted and adhered the shape to my dangling panel and there you have the first decoration.

For the second one I used a template from Splitcoaststampers - really (REALLY) simple to  make (check it out here ) and some DCWV Shimmer double sided cardstock for the box. I punched my holes using my crop-a-dile and then threaded some narrow white satin ribbon through the holes to form the hanger (I can put a gift inside at some point between now and Christmas!!!). I then stamped my inkadinkado star in versamark ink on white card before embossing using Roman Gold. I then cut out my snowflake and then matted on to black card before adhering to the bronze triangle box and there you have a second decoration!

Yesterday saw me completing my sketchie challenge which turned out to be the commissioned card for my friend's mum too which leaves me with a Christmas Carol or Song for I Love Pro Markers, challenge #44 and the Sunday themed challenge . . . . . . now, I've tried a Christmas Carol or Song theme once before and it was my one idea so this might take some thinking about! I tried to get cocky with this one and do a second card based on the Craft Mad & Loving It groups sketch AND combine it with this challenge too - hope you think it works. I took a C6 white card. I printed the words to the Twelve Days of Christmas song and mounted them on to a red layer before attaching to the base card. I then stamped (in memento tuxedo black) the inkadinkado partridge in a pear tree and also the Penny Black twelve days of Christmas images (1 & 12) before colouring in using Pro Markers. I cut the tree image fairly close and mounted on to a matching red layer then I mounted the two days images behind and cut round them so you can still see the words. I don't normally "do" a lot of white space but I thought that a colored and/or patterned background would obliterate the two images so there you have it. Hi there, me again . . . . .


Had the chance to do some crafting - hardly realised that the last time I had the opportunity was Tuesday evening!!!! Blimey, where DO the days go?


Anyway, in addition to trying to get today's sketchie done, an ILPM Christmas song or Carol entry I found time to make this little tree ornament. I used one of my new Nellie Snellen dies and some crystal glitter DCWV card. I cut two identical pieces from the crystal card and sandwiched a piece of narrow white satin ribbon to act as the hanger before sticking them back to back. I used a smaller die from the set to cut a gold layer and then embossed my Papermania design on to white card using black sparkle embossing powder which I then cut out and glued to the gold layer which was then matted on to the crystal (which I prepared by sanding the centre area to give the glue a "key") - BINGO!, hope you like it.

And here is my sketchie . . .

I used a C5 card blank and stamped my image on a piece of white card using memento in in tuxedo black before colouring using pro markers and then highlighting with platinum and crystal stickles. I rounded the corners and then matted on to a piece of red card leaving a very narrow border. I then cut a piece of green card a little wider than my image panel and shallower and rounded those corners too. I took a strip of the matching red card and used the straight punch from a Martha Stewart PATP to cut a strip and adhered red and white striped ribbon across the card panel before assembling the panels as you see below. I also stamped the sentiment and "Mum" on to white card before matting on to green card and attaching to the top left. I hope you all like it and I really hope that the friend who commissioned it will like it for her mum too.

Morning and welcome to sketchie day

Hi everyone, as you know Saturday's for me are sketchie day as there's a new sketchie challenge every Saturday over on Craftubble's Craft Mad & Loving It group. This week's challenge has been set by the lovely Lauren and you can see her sketch below, if you fancy having a go then why not pop over to here and have a look at the Design Teams fabulous cards too.

It was so much warmer yesterday that I woke up really HOT during the night and had to open both windows in our bedroom!!! Blimey, what a change from just a few days ago!?!?!??

Still, as Christmas is RAPIDLY approaching, I've added my little Christmas smiley to my post this morning so, I'm off for a coffee before raiding my stash for the above sketch - do check back later to see what turned up!!!

I SURVIVED!!!!! My hubby had a totally insane idea to head to the mall this morning so we got up and out and where there before 10:00 ............. the rest of the World must've arrived at one minute TO 10:00!!! and were driving aimlessly around looking for a parking space as we arrived! LUCKILY (for my husband) someone backed out of a space close to the entrance as we were approaching so we nabbed it. All thoughts of heading anywhere other than the M&S food hall had already left my head as I was thinking of the Christmas edition of Father Ted one year where the priests had been stuck in the lingerie department for days unable to find a way out!!! Steadfastly, we headed in to M&S and sought out a trolley - they've introduced the £1 coin system to obtain a trolley - hubby's pockets didn't yield fruit so I rummaged and found one - otherwise we'd have failed in our mission already! Now M&S do some scrummy food but this morning I think the emphasis was more on the "SCRUM" element and I quickly felt as though I had donned Harry Potter's Cloak of Invisibility as trolleys hit my rump one after another - now I know I need to lose weight but honestly, have a care peeps! Every single person in the not inconsiderable line at the check outs required the assistance of a supervisor too - makes me wonder if hubby's learned his lesson by now! Of course, it IS probably all my own fault as I had said that the newly opened stretch of road afforded an excellent view of the Concorde so this may have been the reason for our trip! - it is scheduled for removal from public site imminently and that may have been one of the last chances to see it - soooooooooo, yep - should have kept my mouth shut - still, nice view of a local landmark eh? - leaving aside the building site debris in the foreground!!!!

Hope your day is less fraught than mine - on the plus side, we did make it home before the post arrived so am unlikely to have missed any deliveries of Christmas parcels - Eureka!

Friday Funny

My hubby's gone crazy!! It's official - last night he said "Let's go to the mall in the morning"!!!! He hates to go to the mall at the best of times so . . . . what else can I think, I'd best go with him though - just in case!!!

Afternoon dear reader/s

Hope you are all well.

Sorry I'm a bit late but I was out meeting a crafting buddy this morning - we went to Hobbycraft and I darn near succumbed to their special offer on a Big Shot at £59.99!! but restrained myself until I could do some research so all I spent was £2.99 on some collapsible eye needles! Lilian spent much (MUCH) more than me but hey - I can cope! We strolled next door to Tescos (as is our wont) and spent an hour in Costas drinking tea and the lovely Lilian treated me not to a mince pie but to a gluten free chocolate brownie - it was delicious and sticky - just as they're supposed to be.

Back at home I said to my hubby about the restrictions on my QUICKUTZ (it only takes 4" x 4" dies not a mm bigger!) and how I might try to sell it on e-bay and buy a big shot instead, he didn't seem averse to the idea as he is the one with the e-bay account! So, I spent a few mins on-line and found a new Big Shot for £52.95 with free P&P!!! Yee Haa indeed so quick as a flash I bought a die to go with it that I wouldn't have been able to buy yesterday! Now I just have to hope it will arrive before Christmas - a Grand Calibur would be nice but . . . . and at £94 needed a lot more justification!

Anyhoo, hubby and I have put up the twinkly outside icicle lights this afternoon too AND I've delivered the cards to my neighbours so I'm feeling smugly self righteous here - anyone want to make an offer on a Quickutz Revolution with extra cutting plates and a metal carry case?

I'm going to make a cuppa and hit the newly tidied table of craftiness so feel free to check back later and see how I'm getting on.

Not much going on today, mundane stuff like letter writing and bill paying followed by a mega exciting trip to Sainsbury's but at least now we have the crackers and gammon joint for Christmas Day - Whoop de dooooo!

We also reached the heady temperatures of PLUS 1° today - felt like spring!

When I took this mornings WOYWDW photo I was ashamed! I set about tidying it before I allowed myself to craft any more today! It took like FOR EVER!!!! well actually ninety minutes before I could see my desk! Of course this also involved finding homes for my Sakura pens which really ought to be stored on their sides - you know how these "little" jobs evolve! Anyway, I still have the problem of what the heck to do with my lovely new Martha Stewart punches - any suggestions? And no, mailing them to you doesn't count as a practical storage solution - sorry!!!

Anyway, now I can actually see my table of craftiness I can get on with the Christmas Carol or Song challenge over on ILPM's and the commission to make a Christmas card for a friend of mine!, but I guess that will have to be tomorrow afternoon now as I shall be out in the morning - meeting up with fellow crafter, Lilian (aka CB's DUDLEY) at the local Hobbycraft! There may be coffee and maybe even a mince pie involved in this foray . . . .

Morning all

I'm fed up of this weather so all I'm going to say about it today is "MINUS THREE?!?!?!?!" and leave it at that - no picture - you've seen my frosty garden already!

Over on I Love Pro Markers - last weeks challenge was won by Lesley but they also award a top3 and this challenge, I was lucky enough to be in the top3 so THANK YOU to the DT at ILPM's. This weeks challenge is "A Christmas Carol or Song" so why not pop across to them here and check it out? I shall be having a rummage later to see if I can find something suitable - GOOD LUCK.

Hubby was out again last evening so I decided, same as the night before - a scrap layout. Having been out in that fabulous hoare frost weather and go some smashing photos of the frost that it would be a shame not to put them (or at least some of them) in to my scrap book. Over on Scrap Addicts the December challenge is WINTER and must feature snowflakes and only two photos - perfect . . . .

Today is also WOYWDW over on CB and here's my desk - OMG I really need to have a SERIOUS tidy before I can do much crafting and, yes, that poor little box remains unfinished - maybe today!!!!!

Hi, me again - still blooming parky, in fact it's minus FOUR and hasn't been any warmer all day!

Made my meeting with my friend, for coffee. We meet at a local Sainsbury's and can combine grocery shopping with our chat. We treated ourselves to coffee and a mince pie this morning because the line wasn't very long but when it came to our second cup - the line was about 20 people long!! so, this morning, we decided to pass on such a long wait and chatted away instead. It was probably our last chance to meet up until next year! Sounds so very far away when you think in those terms and yet . . . . it's less than four weeks to next year! No, I CAN'T think about resolutions yet, need to get Christmas done first! It was such a thick hoare frost that everywhere looked so lovely (and festive) that I told hubby we needed to go out again this afternoon so I could take some photos! This little chap was waiting for me by the post box when I took my Christmas cards!



Still waiting on some Chrissie presents through the post and assume the weather is slowing some of them . . . . maybe! Sent my Secret Santa gift recently and all my exchange and general Christmas cards today (all 40 of them!).


This afternoon, true to my word, I dragged hubby (not that he took a whole lot of dragging - any excuse to visit a screwfix!). We hit the Made For Ever park in Kingswood, where I took some photos, before visiting aunt and uncle with their Christmas card and then it was on to Screwfix and Costco where we spent more money than we planned (who doesn't?) snagging some more piccies on the way home but it's already dark so no more today.




Oh and this craft piccie (below right) shows that I finally finished my napkin rings and place cards . . cute aren't they? We have the surrogates due for dinner between now and Christmas and we have friends joining us for Christmas (late) lunch this year - first time in a number of years and we're looking forward to it. That'll be an interesting and traditional afternoon/evening with games and a few (maybe even more than a few!) drinks and, as they're staying overnight no homeward journey to worry about until Boxing Day sometime after a late breakfast!!! "Merry" Christmas Sandra and Brian!!!

This one's yet another cold one and I have to go out this morning - such a thick frost on the tree but, looking at the car, nothing! So I'm assuming ice on the car rather than frost - oh goodie! See how thick the frost is on this tree in my neighbours garden.




Hubby went out last evening, to a meeting of his fellow model enthusiasts and I stayed in to craft. The December challenge on Scrap Addicts is a WINTER themed layout which should feature snowflakes and only two photos - tougher than it sounds. It's not my best work but maybe, with all the wintry weather, I'll do another one!




I'm off to meet up with my pal, Andrea, this morning - we had to postpone last week as she had car trouble so I'm hoping that both of us will make it today and we'll have the chance to catch up - probably our last chance before Christmas / New Year.






Looks Christmas card pretty out there this morning but probably means its treacherous, do take care if you need to go out and, wrap up warm!!!

Wotcher - me again, I keep trying to just do one post per day but, with this cold weather, I find I don't really want to go out quite as much!!!

That said, I was summoned this morning by my friend three doors away, for coffee. Imagine my surprise when she told me that she had visiting dogs. I was greeted at her door, by dogs . . . . lots of dogs! Now anyone who knows me knows that I'm a dog lover and that my last dog (Poppy) was a bearded collie cross . . . . Jenny had three visiting beardies (in addition to her own Lhasa Apso) hence summoning hubby and I for coffee. We had met Beth, Tigger and Lucky before and they seemed delighted to see us - but we weren't sure whether they remembered us or just identified us as "suckers"!!! Coffee and flapjacks were proffered and none for the dogs! This is a terrible photo of me (I wouldn't normally wear this ensemble but it's kind of dog proof!!!) but you see Beth in the foreground and Tigger . . . . . well, back view of Tigger; at this point Lucky was "helping" Jenny to make the tea and bring in the flap jacks (ever the optimist!).





Once back home and with lunch over I put the TV on to watch "The Ghosts of Berkeley Square" (a black and white comedy film) and set to work on producing some place cards for our holiday visitors . . . won't bore you with all of them (especially as I haven't finished them all) but here's one I made earlier ....... I used an ATC blank which I folded in half to make it stand up then cut another ATC sized piece of white card on to which I stamped my lovely little snowman and the name ALAN. I coloured my snowman using pro markers, Spica glitter and Sakura Gelly Roll glitter pens. One down six to go . . . .

Morning readers and welcome to the start of another week!

And it looks like being a cold one! It's MINUS blooming FOUR here! Thick frost and mist again this morning so we're staying put for a bit longer!

Last evening we headed of to Gloucester for dinner with friends, the journey wasn't too bad and many of the roads we use are gritted. Of course, nothing is ever simple and the motorway junction for our friends was open on the way up and closed on the way home!! Dinner was excellent and Brian had made caraway bread too - now I'm not a big fan of caraway normally but this was delicious and I'm ashamed to say I ate more than I should have. I ran my Christmas present idea past Sandra and she approved so, this morning, I've nipped on-line and finished my Christmas shopping - HURRAH!!!!

For those of you who read my post yesterday you will know that I've made napkin rings for our Christmas holiday guests and today I may just get round to place cards . . . . . or I may not!! If it warms up then our plans are to put up the outdoor Christmas lights so we can be all festive and get ourselves in the mood. My second bedroom still looks like someone threw a grenade in so it WOULD be nice to get all of the dex sited so we can put the debris back in the loft out of the way! It would also be nice if the post would bring my outstanding Christmas gifties so I could wrap them and put them under the tree too - this would leave my bedroom looking much more . . . well, bedroom like!

This is the view from my back window this morning and you can (maybe) see a light mist but you should definitely get the idea it's C O L D out there!!!! brrrr - the roudn things you can see on my patio are the contents of the birds water bowls!!! Hubby has been tipping them out and refilling daily but the ice is simply not melting - looks like the birds have taken up curling or discus throwing!

Sunny Sunday!

Blimey this weather lark's a bit changeable . . . having had snow and frost and ice we woke this morning to find freezing fog!!! AND NOW? It's all burnt off and the sun is shining up a storm - looks lovely out there and we've reached the giddy temperature heights of 4° - positively balmy by compared to most temperatures over the last couple of weeks!!!!

Anyway, I've been hanging around a bit before posting today as I've been waiting to see what today's themed challenge is over on Craft Mad & Loving It but its not yet been posted - I'll post it as soon as I see it . . . in the meantime, what have I been up to?

Regular readers will know that my hubby usually heads off to the field for some model plane activity of a Sunday morning and this morning was no exception. We had freezing fog but it had started to lift before he headed off. No real surprise to me though, he was back within 30 minutes as he'd approached the field the fog was much thicker so he'd decided against it and came home, stopping on his way to buy a Sunday paper. This disrupted my planned crafting morning, being my usual routine, as he suggested putting up some more Christmas decorations and we are now fully decorated with the exception of the external lights - a bit too blooming cold out there this morning but we may yet get round to it as it's warmed up!! So, all I've managed to craft today are some napkin rings - we are catering for the masses (well, the surrogates anyway) on December 21st so I thought I would make some simple but festive napkin rings - I die cut eight circles of white card (slightly larger than my Inkadinkado sentiment) and then four each of green and red DCWV Shimmer card) slightly larger again. I then took a sheet of black A4 and cut seven 3cm strips widthwise. Once these were cut I marked 1" in from each end and cut a narrow "V" from the top of the strip at one end and the bottom at the other end and the formed my circle with a 1" overlap. Once I'd stamped my circular image centrally on my smaller white circles I then punched a tiny hole in the middle and pushed a toning red (or green) brad through a snowflake before attaching to my red (or green circle) and then applying adhesive to the black overlaps of my napkin "ring" to which I then stuck my sentiment circle. Being continuous sentiment I didn't have to worry about getting it upright so I then added the finishing touch of some crystal stickles to the "snowflake" design of the sentiment...... a simple (and idiot proof) napkin ring!

Karen reminded me that I had yet to make a card my dear hubby so I decided that the sketchie had best be it - his fave colour is red so that was the easy bit! I bought a wonder set of snowmen stamps at Lakeland Art & Glass earlier in the year and yet only ever seem to use the small one so this is the first outing of the larger snowman - isn't he adorable? The set also included the sentiment. The sketch to follow appeared in my earlier post in case you missed it. I cut three panels of textured red card and three panels of the fab striped paper (deemed more masculine than some Christmas-y papers) then I cut the panel across the middle and also added a piece of my wonderful Costco snowflake ribbon. I already had the die cut circles (plain and scalloped) in cream so I simply coloured them using Barn Door and Faded Jeans before stamping my tree silhouette stamp in memento tuxedo black. I then stamped my snowman and sentiment in memento tuxedo black too and coloured my image using pro markers, liquitex pearl and then holographic glitter and then I merely assembled the card and made myself a matching insert with the snowman image and the sentiment stamped on the envelope - I just hope he loves it!!!

Happy Sketchie Day!

As most of you know Saturday is Sketchie Day over on craftbubble's Craft Mad & Loving It group and today is no exception! This weeks delightful sketch has been presented by one of the regular Design Team (guest slots are every fourth week), Karen (whom I was lucky enough to meet recently in Florida - ah yes, I remember . . . . WARM weather too!!!!). There's no twist this week - she says she forgot but I think she just did this to challenge us further! It rained last night and I've a sneaking suspicion, based on all the emergency sirens we've heard this morning already, that it MAY just be awfully ICY out there so, if you have snow or ice, please take care out there.
